Then his journalist wife is ritually murdered by a contract serial killer known as 'The Priest' – because she was close to uncovering a global plot known as 'The Renaissance Project'. 'The Priest' is part of the conspiracy, a transvestite who abducts, violates and murders scores of young women. He leaves no trace, no DNA not even a drop of sweat.

Delaney will never stop until he tracks down 'The Priest' and infiltrates the labyrinthine 'Renaissance Project' – the world's most exclusive 'club' whose members are the global super rich and powerful who seek immortality at any price and at all costs.

Delaney's former partner, wheelchair-bound Bob Messenger, has created confess-confess.com – a global crime busting website where ordinary people fight back against scams, crime and injustice, each with their own code name. Delaney is known as 'The Monk'.

Delaney has sworn never to kill again but to seek peace and spiritual fulfilment. But fate and the loss of the woman he loved drive him to use his consummate investigative and physical skills to track down her killer and the organisation that ordered her execution. When it comes to it and he finally confronts 'The Priest', will he keep his vow or execute terminal revenge?

David Callinan is Anglo-Irish, born into a family from Limerick in the west of Ireland who grew up in the UK. After a spell at art school, early years saw a host of jobs from telegraphist to salesman – before discovering music. After busking all over Europe he rediscovered Irish music and formed The Spalpeens playing all over the UK, Europe and Ireland touring with The Dubliners, Sweeney's Men, The Chieftains and many others.

He appeared in films such as The Lion In Winter (Peter O'Toole, Katherine Hepburn) and Sinful Davey (John Hurt) and scores of television advertisements (was even directed by the late, great John Huston).

Later, he formed Urban Clearway, touring and performing with artists such as Elton John, Billy Connolly, Rod Stewart and Long John Baldry.

He co-wrote a Celtic rock opera for the Edinburgh Festival. 'Pucka-Ri' starred a young Pierce Brosnan and became one of the hits of the Fringe, before transferring to the Arts Theatre in London.

Latterly, an earlier spacey, folk-rock album, Freedom's Lament, recorded by Callinan-Flynn, has emerged as a highly sought after title on the Internet – and new wave Irish chanteur Sean Tyrrell has recorded a number of his songs on recent albums.

He began to write seriously, producing a string of screenplays and novels, the first of which, 'Fortress Manhattan' was published by Gollancz (Orion) and the '10-Minute Miracle' by HarperCollins.

Current books include thrillers: 'The Immortality Plot'; 'Knife Edge'; 'Bodyswitch' and 'An Angel On My Shoulder'.

He has written the YA fantasy trilogy, 'The Kingdoms Of Time And Space' and a chapter series for 7-10 year olds, 'The Weather Kids'.

Mike Delaney thriller. Mike has been a US government assassin, He was a former government assassin and Hong Kong police enforcer who was forced out of Hong Kong and known as The Monk. Has found peace by being at the monastery, but couldn’t be part of the brotherhood, he knew, and join.He left the monastery to marry Maria, an investigative journalist. This mixture of Mike, comes at once when Messenger calls with news, was it real of who put the contract on his wife. The team that works for confess- confess.com , which Messenger started, was a high success. Where people could fight back against crime, and injustice. As Mike leaves he vows not to kill another human, to seek peace and tranquility In seeking revenge for Maria what will he do? When she and their unborn child are murdered in a gruesome way, he vows to find the murderer. Working with his friend Bob on confess-confess.com he posts as the Monk things about his wife’s murder designed to ferret out information. The clues begin coming in and the book takes off as Mike begins his search. There are several plot threads that you know must be connected but you are not sure how until later in the book. The reason for the title is not revealed until the end.  I thoroughly enjoyed this satisfying thriller. It was not a cliffhanger but it definitely left me wanting more Mike Delaney.

The Immortality Plot is my first novel by David Callinan. Here we have a solid thriller conspiracy with conflict between a good character, The Monk, & an evil character, The Priest. Mike Delaney is a man adrift in a world gone mad. The Priest is the chaos to the Monk's order. The Monk finds solace in his meditation while the Priest seeks counsel with his bears-a nice touch by the way. An old friend from the force seems to be the only anchor left for the Monk.

Girls are going missing & the police are clueless. Delaney agrees to find the missing daughter of Lena McLean. He will be up against a dark, underworld organization with corporation tentacles facilitating their operations. The conflicted Delaney has his own inner demons to quell. If this novel is any indication readers can expect an exciting series developing in the future.

This psychological thriller grabbed my FULL attention from the beginning and kept it all the way through. The story has a good pace that keeps you captivated and hanging right on the edge. The characters are so intriguing and deeply-complex. I liked the dichotomy that was Mike Delaney. He has sworn off killing, since leaving the military, but he wants revenge for his wife's brutal murder. The Priest is everything that is creepy and sick and twisted. He's a psycho killer that you won't soon forget. Callinan weaves a very intricate and addicting web of suspense, that I found unable to resist... or put down until the end. I can't wait to read what is in store for Delaney, next!

*I received a complimentary ARC of this book in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.

Mike Delaney is a guy you would not want to have as an enemy.

Although, as an operative in a covert American agency, he did things he was not proud of, Mike had a profound sense of righteousness. Determined to find those responsible for the murder of his pregnant wife, he stays within the constraints of the law.

This is a story you could really want to read in one sitting however, due to all the typos, I found it too daunting. This is the reason for the three star rating. As much as I enjoyed the story, I felt as though I was reading a badly proofed ARC copy and not a bought eBook.

Meeting Mike Delaney

I believe I received a book with the incorrect title and cover. I feel sure that I actually read , The Exterminator, and not, Never Say Die. In any event, the book I just finished was certainly an excellent read. Mike Delaney is a well developed and believable character, and I plan to read the rest of this series.

The Immortality Plot is the 'birth' of the Monk. It is how Mike Delancy became Monk. It is a 5 star thriller and elevates David Callinan to one of the top authors of this genre. Don't delay read it next!

If you like fast paced thrillers that has a macabre villain then David Callinan's Immortality Plot is the book for you. I really liked the twists and turns that the story took. And the things that a man will do to avenge the murder of his wife. Well done.

David Callihan author of THE IMMORTALITY PLOT. A Mike Delaney thriller.
Mike has been a US government assassin, with Hong Kong enforcer He was married to Maria, expecting a child, and known as The Monk. Has found peace by being at the monastery, but couldn't be part of the brotherhood, he knew, and join. This mixture of Mike, comes at once when Messenger calls.with news, was it real of who put the contract on his wife.

As Mike leaves he vows not to kill another human, to seek peace and tranquility In seeking revenge for Maria what will he do. The plot thickens, Messenger is with him, though now in a wheelchair. A set up that went terrible wrong, he lived, and Mike retreated to the monastery. How will this turn out. Will he get revenge and clear his name, then what afterwards, if he lives. Messenger has another challenge for him at confess - confess they have a shed full of cases to solve. Mike has expunged his anger, but not the pain. How to move forward A great thriller from beginning to the end. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

Mike Delaney was a hard, take no prisoners type of guy – until his wife was murdered and their baby died with her. He had been nearly murdered in China while working as a cop; worked before that for a group that didn’t have a name and survived but Maria’s murder? That did him in. He left their house for a monastery high in the California hills, where he meditated, practiced Tai Chi and other arts until time came he had to do something else. Find the murderer of his wife.
She had been a journalist with a home office he didn’t intrude on but, after the fire he had sense enough to move what was left of her computer and files somewhere else until the investigation was done. Until the public’s mind was distracted by the next big thing – The Priest. He took lovely young women, made them confess on tape to a myriad of sins and then put the tape in their mouths and killed them. His newest offerings had a cross cut into their backs.
All clues and other disappearances somehow lead to a charity funder called LifeForce International but how? Mike risks everything to find out and, at the end, the surprise is his. You have to read this thriller! It never stops surprising and making you think you’ve got the answer when, in fact, you’ve got no clue at all!

This the third book I've read from Mr. Callinan and they only keep getting better. His descriptions are so vivid that you actually feel like you're in the room. Every fight scene is perfectly described that even someone who has no knowledge of martial arts can follow the movements. This is an art that Mr. Callinan was born with not something you can learn. He is very blessed to possess this talent. I don't describe plots in my reviews because it's your pleasure as a reader not to be aware in advance of what's coming. Here are my reasons for not giving a 5 star review; very poor proofreading (a pet peeve of mine) and when an English writer gives you a book written as happening in the USA, please remember we don't have car parks, we have parking lots and we don't use the term whilst. I know it seems petty but it interrupts the flow of reading for me Sorry, Mr. Callinan, but it won't stop me from reading the rest of your books in this series.

This is an exciting thriller that will grab your attention from the very beginning. After a mission in Hong Kong, Mike Delaney and his buddy, Bob Messenger are dismissed from their military units. Messenger then went on to develop an on-line investigation service called confess-confess. This service has members including law enforcement and private investigators to average citizens. Delaney becomes an investigator for confess-confess in hopes of tracking down his wife's killer. Similar murders occur and someone self-named "The Priest" claims responsibility. Can Mike Delaney follow the clues and track down the killer. This story is very well written and even though I find some thrillers hard to follow I had no trouble with this story line. I thought the development of the characters was great. I will definitely read more from this author.

Mike Delaney is an ex-special forces agent, expert in martial arts and various meditation methods, and trying to deal with his wife's horrific murder. He is called out of his self-imposed exile at a monastery when it looks like a serial killer is on the loose, and may have been the one who killed Delaney's wife. The first several chapters are a bit slow, but once the pace picks up it races along. I enjoy serial killer - detective thrillers, and this was a good one. I was distracted by the poor editing of the manuscript, which left too many grammatical errors, misspellings, and punctuation problems. There were also a couple of potential love interests, which I felt didn't add to the story. Overall a good read.

This is a great thriller, the plot is brilliant, the action heart-pumpingly realistic and the characterisations superb. I found it to be one of those rare books which I find difficult to put down, and although the plot is quite complicated, the skillful writing makes it very easy to follow.

This is the first book that I have read by David Callinan, but it definitely won't be the last.

I particularly liked the lead character, Mike Delaney, his background, and the conflict between his spiritual side and his desire for vengeance, his main opponent, 'The Priest' is also a great creation, quite creepy and weird, but even though he is quite over the top, still somehow very believable.

A tense psychological thriller. Ex-special forces guy Mike's wife gets killed brutally, and he goes into a monastery to try and reconcile his life.
But RL interferes, and he goes on the track of his wife's killer. The killer is a transvestite with split personality who is also a serial killer and insane.
We follow Mike as he tracks the trail that lead his wife to where she was killed. Along the way he learns about missing girls that she was also looking into (she was a journalist).
Loads of action and tense drama. Well worth a read.

I cannot speak highly enough of this book! No spoilers here, just know that the novel is gripping, suspenseful and just a downright great read. The characters are all well developed and are introduced in a logical order so the story is easy to follow. I had trouble putting my Kindle down because I just wanted to keep reading. Mike Delaney is a really likable character, and the bad guys are simply ones you LOVE to hate. Some parts of the story are a touch predictable, but for the most part, it moves along and keeps you guessing, and just when you think you've got if figured out, BAM, another twist. I can't wait for the next book in the series, David Callinan absolutely ROCKED THIS! Mike Delaney is my new favorite hero!

"He wanted to live for ever - and he would."
In The Immortality Plot, David Callinan has written an exciting, well developed mystery thriller, with good characterisation especially of the main protagonist. Although not written in the first person, the reader is taken inside the head of Mike Delaney to feel his innermost loves, hates, angers and fears as well as peeking back at the past history he wants to leave behind. Following his dismissal from the Hong Kong police, Delaney had retreated to a distant monestary, where he met and married Maria, an investigative journalist. He was happy, life was good until his wife was brutally murdered when three months pregnant. Although he was mostly cleared as a suspect, no killer was found, and fearing that pressure of work will cause the police to sideline the case, with the assistance of an old wheelchair bound friend from his Hong Kong days, Mike begins his own investigation, determined to find the sadistic person calling himself the Priest. As it becomes obvious that his wife had not been the only victim, and fearing for the life of another disappeared young woman, he discovers another, more heinous plot behind the seemingly unconnected deaths.

This is a well developed novel, written with great attention to detail, providing full description not only of forensics and blow by blow fight scenes but also of personal conversation and communication, post death body changes, location, meals taken and even fashion
This makes for a very authentic feeling book or, as one character says, 'It was slick. It was seductive. It was believable."

So why only four stars? Unfortunately the book was let down by poor editting, with occasional typos and some slightly scrambled sentences. It did not affect the progress of the story but did act as a mild distraction, jolting this reader from full immersion in the book.Hopefully, this problem will be resolved.
Apart from this, David Callinan has conceived a good mystery thriller, well written and very enjoyable. Recommended

The one thriller you should NOT miss!! There is books that has heart and soul, and a wide gallery of emotions, and there is books that has action and thrill. Finding a masterly written book with a generous display of soul and a clear presences of the heart in the main character is very rare, especially in a thriller. The stereotype mucho grucho hardboiled man is so far from this gorgeously portrayed character. The heartbreaking backstory is revealed in a very subtle way, whilest the current events unfold in a masterly suspense escalating way. Im absolutly in a wow-state after reading this book. This is definitly one of the best, if not THE best thriller I've ever read, and considering I am a avid reader, I've read quite a few.
Standing ovations and a nomination to best thriller EVER written award (if there is such a award).
To and about the Author: Masterly done. Sheer genius!

What an awesome book! Full of action, adventure, twists and turns, it's an absolutely thrilling read!! As Mike Delaney tries to find the Priest, and solve the Renaissance investigation (as well as not getting arrested himself!), he also has to try and answer the question of whether he will be able to keep his vow of never killing anyone again when faced with those responsible for the death of his wife and the girls whose deaths are linked to hers. But I'm not spoiling the story by telling you any more - you'll have to read it to find out! Just be prepared to get nothing done all day and be up all night, as you'll not be able to put this book down until you've finished

This was a very intriguing and exciting thriller. Mike Delaney is trying to track down a sick serial killer who killed his wife. In the process, he discovers an international plot involving many rich and powerful people. I enjoyed author David Callinan's characters, including the totally deranged killer. The writer was very graphic in his descriptions of everything, always setting the scene so well it was like watching a movie. I was especially impressed with the details of the various fight scenes. The author is either very familiar with the various forms of self defense or did a lot of research. The only thing that I found disappointing was the number of careless typos that should have been picked up during the editing process. Callinan is too talented for those types of mistakes. I have several more of his books, and look forward to reading them.
