Sam Sommer hit the target with this book! It's very easy to understand, and read. Many points are given to us as novice collectors, what we should and should not purchase as well as what we should expect to pay, the minimum threshold amount to pay for an ungraded coin, if you should buy an ungraded coin (for the price listed), and when you should be weary of fakes. Definitely worth having this book in my collection!
Nice information for me. Been saving coins for over 50 years and I am just starting to organize my collection. Some of my coins were given to me by older amateur coin collectors 40 plus years ago and have never seen the light of day. This book was very helpful.
The Basics Sam Sommer’s Coin Collecting is a simple and to-the-point. The author writes to cover “all the basics of collecting.” However, it often seemed more like a book on investing than collecting.

This book is a great place to start for the novice who is looking to learn about getting started in error coins. It certainly did whet my appetite. There is lots of detail to digest and the photographs, though black & white, were all very clear and easy to see examples compared to other intro books I've read. A recommended resource.
This book was very helpful to me, I was able to find out what the ranting to coins meant. That there is different coin types and what they stand for. If you are just getting started or would like more insight into coin collection this book will help with that.
Organized well and easy to read for a beginner, I learned a lot and even write down notes while reading. Has everything you need to get into the hobby of coin collecting
