Lots of action, mystery and heroes to like

This is basically two stories running parallel, and both grip you as tightly as a big dollop of super glue on skin. Handsome tough guy mystery man, Anthony Black (aka investigator/special agent John Steel), is on a luxury cruise liner investigating terrorism. The story starts with Steel attempting to deactivate a bomb on the ship, and he only has minutes to succeed. Then it continues, fourteen days earlier, to set the scene for why the bomb was planted, and who planted it.

At the same time in New York, where the liner is headed, sexy Detective Samantha McCall (one of Black’s past girlfriends) is tasked with catching a serial killer, who is on the rampage in the Big Apple. Assisted by her colleagues Marinelli and Toombs, not forgetting Medical Examiner Tina, Detective McCall begins to make headway in her investigation, and is surprised to get a phone call from John Steel who is aboard the liner, asking her for help. She is angry. There are more killings. The puzzle of finding the killer is seemingly insoluble.

Meanwhile, Steel is trying to find out what’s going on aboard the liner. There are some very interesting glimpses into the luxury lifestyle aboard a cruise ship, with an insider’s knowledge of all the ins and outs of daily life on the ocean. Steel makes friends and enemies, also friends who ‘might be enemies’, which adds to his worries. He also meets some glamorous women who certainly take a shine to him, though being a perfect English gentleman, he never treats them with disrespect.

The tension mounts both in New York, where the corpse count is steadily mounting, and on board the ship, where Steel has fights and run-ins galore, and the shady characters he meets are intriguing and threatening in equal measure. Who can he trust? It seems that no one is on his side, and he keeps up his persona of the mysterious ‘Anthony Black’, who gives away no details of his personal life to anyone.

John Steel knows that someone on board wants to blow up the vessel, but he doesn’t know who or why. All he knows for sure is that time is running out.

Simultaneously, on dry land, Samantha McCall hits more danger and dead ends and more people die.

To say more would give away too much. But if you like fast action, tough-guy heroes and sexy feisty heroines, you’ll love this book. By the way, these people aren’t one-dimensional characters, the writer brings them to life and rounds of their personalities, so that you find yourself liking them as people.

You’ll also like this book if you enjoy a good murder mystery. There’s action and intrigue on every page, and the mysteries pulls you in. Once you start reading you won’t want to stop.
