My daughter is going into 6th grade next year and we've read the book together. It is such an uplifting book for a young girl. The topics are timely and age appropriate. We've discussed everything from her looks, to annoying boys, to mean girls, to body changes, and everything in between. The fill in the blank self affirmations are the highlights in my opinion. I'm very grateful to the mothers who took time to put this together for the rest of us and our growing daughters. I'd say any middle school age girl would benefit from this book.

Just okay. Some good things to think about and discuss, but a lot of girl power, your-opinion-is-always-right (really, 12 year old girls???), and God made you just right (very true, but zero mention of sin, human nature, Jesus as the source of anything, etc.)

This is a fantastic book. It's a handbook that is equally valuable to both mom and daughter. There are helpful tips for starting conversations with your 6th grade daughter. Studies were cited that added excellent additional insight. I liked the Just for Moms section and I loved the perspective that came from the Kidspeak sections. For me, reading this book was like listening to suggestions from a very friendly, wise and experienced older sister who has successfully made it through her daughter's 6th grade year. It is a great guide for both mother and daughter to happily navigate through this challenging but cherished year.

There were some extra special things that stood out to me in this book that I hadn't read or heard anywhere else:

Chapter 5: Peaches and Puberty Analogy

Chapter 7: True Friend Acronym

Chapter 8: Pecking Order/Popular Hen Analogy; Blue Shirt/Green Shirt Peer Pressure Analogy

If you have a daughter headed to 6th grade, you need this book!

The subtitle says it all: connecting mothers and daughters. This well-written book can help ease the concerns of both, in ways both can relate to. It gives lots of good examples of things girls are facing. It asks--and answers--questions girls are likely to find themselves wondering about and wishing they had the courage to ask their moms! In other places, it asks questions many girls may not think of, phrased in non-judgmental ways that can help girls to reassess what they're struggling with and put a positive spin on it. There are lots of helpful hints and suggestions, and at the end of each chapter are some "Super Sentences" for the girls to complete about themselves, helping them to see the good in their lives. Wish it had been around when my daughter was in 6th grade!

I wish I would have had this when my teenaged girls were younger. So much good information and filled with ways to face the issues that this time of life brings. It inspired me to text my best friend from those years and thank her for being a great friend. Highly recommend this book.

This was a great read with my daughter. It's great for girls to hear advice from other women who aren't "mom". After all, everyone knows more than your own mother! ;)
