This book was really cute and fun, and honestly I learned some things myself! Didn't realize there were different categories of conjunctions... Thanks to the publisher for the free copy! 😍
Fairly interesting tale of two girls who use what they learned about conjunctions to write a newspaper article. The idea of conjunctions the type and how they are used is simply explained with examples that represent each type in connection with a real life situations. There is a glossary that defines the types of conjunctions as well as the mnemonic, FANBOYS the helps you remember the coordinating conjunctions, ( for, and, nor ,but, or, yet, so). There are also two websites listed, one a conjunction game and the other that has a chart that lists many conjunctions. This book is part of a series of books called, "Language Builders." They are all designed to help students learn about different parts of speech. This is a good format for young language learners and readers to put vivid examples of how parts of speech work so overall an interesting book to have both as a chapter book to read and for teachers to use to present lessons on speech parts.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for a chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is a good read for grades 3rd and up or whenever your child begins learning about conjunctions. It was even a great review for the three different types of conjunctions for me, but I didn't care for the story. I was really happy about POC characters though so 2 1/2 stars. Rounded down because this was another children's book where I was waiting for the end.
If I were still in Korea teaching grammar, I'd love to use this rather than the boring, dry grammar books we always had. Great tie in with writing as well.
