Neurolinguistic Programming is about helping you to identify and develop the patterns of thought and behaviour which are most beneficial to you. Introducing NLP for Work teaches you how to build a successful rapport with your colleagues, enabling you to deal effectively with any problems and master any situation.
I expected to hate this book. I expected to sneer at this book. I expected this book to give me confidence in explaining to NLP aficionados why "behavioural science" is a) totally different and b) much more useful.
I was wrong on all of these counts. And if I'd read the beginning of the last chapter first, I might've had a clue why:
"NLP is not a science. It's not really an art either. It's definitely not a religion, although some people are evangelical about it. Its best thought of as a tool kit. Like all good tool kits, there will be some bits you use a lot and some that rarely come out of the box."
It seems to me that NLP is to interpersonal communication what advertising is to mass communication. Its the digested expertise of people who are very observant in relation to a specified set of goals (in this case, how to influence people in a work environment).
Some of the tools might look a bit like claims about "how people think" but this author at least holds those claims with sufficient lightness to mostly avoid setting off my psychobabble detectors (and those are pretty darn sensitive). She encourages you to try out the different tools, and gives extremely clear and helpful instructions about how to do that, and if you don't find something helpful, out it goes.
I imagine lots of people could get a lot out of this, especially people who get nervous in social situations for whatever reason. Teams might benefit from discussing some of the chapters together to help see what works in their context and to maximise mutual understanding.
That was a pretty damn good ROI on a book I borrowed from Amazon Prime.
Good book. An accessible guide to NLP which is an easy read cover-to-cover. All the foundation elements are covered well and with decent examples of scenarios within the workplace.
I'm currently doing a foundation course in NLP for self development and I found some of the topics in this book were much better explained, for example, perceptual positioning and meta model questioning.
It's still early days for my journey into NLP and it's more of an interest rather than a serious thing. I do find some of the areas fascinating though and wanted to learn more and, as such, this book delivers on those aims.
If anything, the book is perhaps a little too short, however a good reading list is offered at the end... and I've already got a couple of the suggestions queued up!
The book explains the basics of our operating framework in how we interact and communicate with people with usable techniques that can help improve our relationships with others by understanding the true meaning in hidden language or best approach to influence someone.
The book gives a very good insight on NLP . This book is surely a starting point for anyone who wants to learn NLP . There are simple exercises given to practice some aspects of NLP. At the end of the book credible references are given for those who want to dig deeper into NLP
Great overview on nlp! Always enjoyed the layout of these books with the 'remember this' and 'useful tips' parts paraphrasing import information. Great way to get start practicing and paying attention to what we do as humans.
Very nice and interesting book and I felt that I learned and saw that some things I do them by myself already. Great content. It made me want to learn more about NLP.
