The Stable that Stayed

Rate this book
This is an enchanting picture book about a stable owned by a fashionable family in the Gay Nineties. When they moved out, the stable was empty and lonely. Soon cats and bats, dogs and mice moved in to keep it company. Finally a joyous artist and his family joined the others and with this menagerie he never ran out of things to paint.

"Once there was a stable that was Red and Beautiful and very Fine." The Stable that Stayed was a treat to read. A very proper and very boring family move away from this fine place and an assortment of animals move in. Eventually, a fun-loving, book-reading family move in as well and they delight in all the comforts the stable and its surrounding property have to offer. The illustrations are as sweet as the story.
