Meh. This would probably be quite helpful for someone who was new to the business, but there wasn't anything to it that I don't already know after a couple of years working as an extra.
Also, even though my copy is a 19th Edition, purportedly "completely revised and updated!" in 2006 (the most recent I could find), it seemed much more dated than that. Maybe it was the weird way the information was presented. The formatting, layout of the pages, odd black-and-white low-quality pictures, overuse of fonts, and large type sort of combined to give the impression of something printed in the sixties. The information obviously *was* much more current than that - it included agencies I'm very familiar with and shows which are currently on the air - but even so I still had the sensation of reading something out of date, which made it harder to even care about what they were telling me. At times it also seemed to be giving me a fairly clumsy hard-sell. ("E-Z REGISTRATION! HOW TO GET STARTED TODAY!" Are you guys getting kickbacks?)
Anyway. Like I said, the information is valid, and the pointers are good. If you're fresh off the bus in LA and you're looking to get your feet wet in background work, and you can overlook the odd way it's presented, it could be a big help to you. For me, it just wasn't much use.
