Rate this book
A sailor. A governess. A rich lord. Will their love for each other blossom only to die?

Jonathan Stewart has always loved Lisa Jennings from afar. On the day she finally returns his passions, she falls with child, and the two are quickly wed. He finds a job as a sailor for a five year indentured contract to support his family. While he is away, Lisa loses the baby, and is informed that she cannot have another. When they meet again, Lisa tells Jonathan that they need only try again to make their family complete.

Rich Lord Casper Beaumont falls in love with an intelligent young woman, but when tragedy strikes, he is left a young widower with a child. He adopts the alias “Carlisle Turberville” as he travels abroad to escape his grief.

Passions collide when Lisa is appointed governess to Casper’s daughter while Jonathan is out at sea…

A steamy union of Jane Eyre and The Voyage Out, witness Lisa struggle to keep a job due to her temper, Jonathan contend with having to fit into the tough life aboard a ship, and Casper grapple with his pathos—all while their fates intertwine.

You know what I wasn't expecting? To be so consumed by this story that I could not stop thinking about it (or raving about it to friends and open-minded work colleagues). The characters are complex and unique, and each one has their own story that weaves in amongst one another in unexpected ways. The character development is genuine, exciting , and at times jaw-dropping.

I came for the unique precent of the story, but what made me stay was how beautifully the story was written. It's rare that you find a book that reads as if it should be snuggled up next to the classics on your English professor's nightstand!

Don't be fooled though, the sauciness in this story is SPICY! It takes a to make this old gal blush but my word, did it! Unlike other stories that include intimate scenes for the sake of being racy, Gio has made the encounters meaningful and steamier than steam engine train! Toot, toot, all aboard!

I can't wait for the next installment, but in the meantime I have made it my mission to recommend this book to all of my friends.

What a beautifully written book. It takes one on a very realistic journey. Each character is brought to life, and one can empathize with them. The daily struggles, along with the ups and downs of life and love.

Although it contains some 'out of my comfort zone' writing, it was never vulgar. There is a sense of respect for both male and female that often doesn't come across in other writers' work.

All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to Part 2 as I'm left here on a bit of a cliffhanger for my favorite character (Casper).

This was an engaging read, the characters are flawed but hoping for the best. My favorite character is Lisa she is decisive and just keeps moving forward. I can understand why she some of things she did affected others but she was standing by her decision.

Casper is a likeable guy, he's a widow with a beautiful, charming daughter. He even makes some undesirable decisions and lives with the consequences.

I really enjoyed reading this novel it took me to another place in time. I definitely recommend this as a must read for a Victorian style romance story lovers.

Gio Peters is a very talented author. He has a beautiful, old-school writing style that perfectly fits the historical setting. The rich descriptions give an interesting glimpse into a bygone era. All of the characters are well-developed and there is great emotional depth to the story. If you don't mind a love triangle and you enjoy some smut (FM, MM) with your historical romance, you'll love this historical romance. I'm looking forward to reading part 2.

Gio Peters takes you on a whirlwind journey back into history with this beautiful masterpiece. Last time I read a historical novel was the Bridgeton series but this is a different level! His way of writing is unique and immediately catching. #localislekka 🇿🇦
