Dr. Wendell Hickman McGarry was raised in Salt Lake City. An Army medic in WWII he was captured in the Philippine Islands on Corregidor in 1942; liberated in 1945. A graduate of the University of Missouri, Kansas City he practiced dentistry for 35 years until his retirement in 1982. He died May 21, 2004. Gwen Jacobson and Dr. McGarry married in 1980 after the death of their respective spouses. Raised in central Utah and educated at Snow College and Brigham Young University she has written two published pieces, a history of the Bank of Ephraim and the short story, Another New Day. She presently resides in Ephraim, Utah where she writes family histories and enjoys visits—especially from grandchildren.
I was given this book by a woman who I attend church with. She wrote it in memory of her husbands experience as a POW in several different Japanese internment camps in the South Pacific during WWII. The book was beautifully written and painfully graphic. A labor of love on the author part. Very well done.
