Only Fools Get Fouled : The Cambridge Crew

Rate this book
Lyfe Cambridge is a man that saves the games for the court. When it comes to his marriage, he takes every vow serious. A man that knows what he wants is a man of certainty. However, when the smoke clears from around his marriage, things began to change for all parties involved. Sometimes all one needs is that one person they can’t touch to make things better.

Nasoni Monroe is a woman that is dealing with a hand that life dealt with no remorse. Every person she loved has left her alone and now she has to find her way as a new mother. Moving to Graceland Heights, she’s hoping for a better and more peaceful life. One thing she didn’t expect was falling for someone after vowing to focus on herself and child, let alone falling for someone that was already claimed. Why is the best fruit always forbidden? It’s like, what’s good for you can only be observed and not experienced.

Lyfe and Nasoni are two people willing to take the risk. Life taught them one thing and that was to be selfish with their love. Not everyone deserves a happy ending, either, but these two are willing to fight for theirs.

Lyfe was a proper fool! that man ain’t smart at all. This book was all over the place🤷🏾‍♀️ Lyfe knew what to do, but decided to complain about his marriage half of the book.

3.75…..I have feelings

Lyfe was a dummy…..I was screaming at him to turn on his brain. I loved Nasoni….from the beginning I just wanted her to win. Snow was a piece of work and well, she got off too easy for me. Just a bad person all around. I enjoyed the family dynamics and watching Lyfe and Nas find their footing together. I loved his relationship with Princess Ana, that was his baby from first sight and he was not changing his stance on that. I’ve read a few books in this series before but I’ll definitely be checking out the other stories. TW’s for mentions of CA, SA and DV.

Fools fouls and fumbles. I normally rock with this author FORREAL but baby this was a ride I don’t wish on my worst enemies. I love an insta love and found family trope. My issue is the way this story unfolded and the places it took us. We open the story up and it Lyfe complaining from the first chapter he appeared in to about the 85% mark. All he needed to do was get a divorce, hire a PI, listen to his family ANYTHING. Instead he claims to wanna fight for his family but basically all that meant was arguing with a sketchy chick. Snow was dumb and in the end got what she deserved but, she only did what Lyfe allowed. It’s not about being soft, it’s the fact that folks he could trust was telling him something wasn’t right YET ALL HE DID WAS HUFF PUFF AND ARGUE WITH HER, ain’t follow her no where track her locations nothing but screaming in the mansion lmao.
On to Nasoni, I get she was a trauma victim but the girl was NOT BRIGHT. Idc who it is you don’t know that man from a can of paint and since they added her terrible upbringing I would think she would be more cautious with her own child. She was not that desperation to belong and be apart of something had her up and around her sisters husband family with no safety net. She got embarrassed tryna reconnect with her sister Snow. I can’t blame her for wanting to do what her granny asked but why would you a technical stranger pull up to ya sisters home after not speaking for 10 years? Like cmon I get it you grieving you need to feel connected but BFFR and do it quickly.
Now the fact that both characters needed intense therapy to overcome and help balance out the desperation that was oozing out their pores, the first intimate scene between them was rape. Hate to say, sorry if y’all ain’t read it that way but if her mouth is saying STOP and no then the body don’t matter the hunger and horny don’t matter because the scene wasn’t even organic. You embarrassed this girl and she’s expressing her frustration and says she’s gonna change the baby’s name and you snap. That’s when you realize she’s the one you wanna be with over your deceitful sneaky trifling wife who you still with by the way. Like sorry Miss Easton I’m not sure what your goal was but that scene wasn’t it. Basically Lyft used sex to avoid the accountability and lack of meaning behind his words. The correct resolution was to give that girl some space and then find somewhere safe to have a discussion of what’s next for them.
Her mom reappearing also irritated me cus we never got an explanation as to why she knew where she lived, we also see holes in the fact that this family full of thugs and gangsters but they left they own out to dry… Like you gonna have to make it make sense to me, yall had a run in already and Nas warned yall yet she was left unprotected. Yet we the reader are supposed to believe this is some loving romantic tale of two souls ? This book was an absolute miss for me.

4.5✨ When I think of characters who epitomize the “stand on business” phrase, Lyfe Cambridge has to be atop of the list. The way he stepped up for Nasoni and Princess Ana is nothing short of admirable. Connie wrote a great depiction of an instalove, found family, and sports romance story. Nasoni lost her biggest supporter and has to start over in a new city with her unborn child. An unexpected accident turned into her biggest blessing. Lyfe is a superstar basketball player at the top of his game, but his home life is his biggest challenge. When Lyfe first laid eyes on baby Ana, she unlocked a piece of Lyfe’s heart. It was truly love at first sight, and you couldn’t tell me Ana didn’t come from Lyfe! We love a good father!

The story had a good pace for an instalove; the tension and chemistry oozed from the pages. The drama was next level, and I was frustrated with the side characters and the drama they brought. Nasoni and Ana gained the family they needed; and for that, the chaos was worth it. A good read for me!

Lyfe is everything a woman should want in a man. The love and affection he showed to Nas and Ana was so precious. Snow and Trina were some awful ppl and hell os too good of a place for them. Really good read!

Being a Cambridge came with perks, money, name recognition and protection. But it also put a target on your back, as the snakes, haters, and leeches were out looking for a come up. Lyfe seemingly had it all, a great career in the NBA, loving and supportive family, but his marriage was in shambles. His wife Snow, wanted to be anywhere but with him. He was frustrated and embarrassed by her absence and her behavior. However, he trusted his wife, and believed in love, no matter what those around him told him. Bruh, I don’t know how you are a Cambridge and didn’t see all that writing on the wall that your wife wasn't ish! 👀 It was like he kept his blinders on tight and refused to see what was right in front of him. SMDH.... 😡

Nasoni was dealt a hell of a hand in life, and it was all due to her trash ass momma! 😤 That woman allowed incomprehensible things to happen to her child, with no remorse. Just evil! 🤬 So her granny stepped in to love and care for her, but she soon lost her as well. Now alone and preparing to bring her baby girl into the world, she wonders what she will do. No worries, granny done took care of everything. Nothing could have prepared her for the way her life sprang into action when she moved to Graceland Heights.

Lyfe meeting Nasoni was supposed to be a casual meet, but Lyfe was immediately taken by both Nasoni and Ana, bulldozing himself into their lives. What he had in his friendship with Nas was everything he ever wanted, and baby Ana was the cherry on top. They gave him peace and happiness, but what do I do with this damn wife of mine who stays MIA? This ish got messy, and Nas was not with it. As much as she cared for Lyfe, she was not going to surround herself with all this drama. However, Lyfe was not taking no for an answer and fought hard for his family. Was this whole arrangement unorthodox as hell, yes, the hell it was, but these two deserved the happiness they found in each other. Enjoyed this, and hope there is more from the Cambridge Crew.

Lyfe and Nas loved, okay?!

Lyfe is a pro basketball player in the height of his career. All he needs is love and support. He gets that from his family, but he can’t get that from the one person he made vows with, his wife Snow. She’d rather do everything under the sun BUT be a wife to him.

Nasoni has lost everything she’s loved when they buried her grandmother. She’s a survivor of child abuse and her granny saved her from her treacherous mother, Trina who let every man she entertained have their way with Nasoni. Now that Nasoni is grown, she moves to Graceland Heights to start over, find her older sister and give birth to her little girl. Except she gets into a bad car accident and immediately goes into labor. All this leads to her and Ana (the cutest, chunkest baby ever!!!) being loved and supported by the Cambridge clan.

The twists and turns in this book had me sitting up in bed screaming. Snow and Trina didn’t get handled enough for me, but at least they got handled.

READ. THIS. BOOK!!!!

“He’s a good man Savannah” 🤣

I’m not a big fan of books certained around professional basketball players. This book was totally different. I couldn’t imagine growing up in a home where your mom allowed men to sa you. Nasoni grandma saved her and I hated how she never got to see her give birth due to her passing. Nas grandma left her money and purchased a condo for her. She ended up getting into an accident and this pro basketball player ended up naming the baby after him after bonding. It was crazy bc come to find out he was married. When I say this book is worth the read. This book had some twist and turns that will have your mouth dropping.

Only fools get fouled— contains spoilers

This was my first read with the Cambridge Crew and I really enjoyed it. This family is the definition of the phrase family over everything. They will ride with and for their family both blood and not until you do something foul and cross one of them and then you become public enemy number one and need to watch your back because they are coming for you. Snow and her mama learned that lesson the hard way. Snow was moving foul from the beginning and I hate it had to end for her the way it did, but she was wrong on so many levels. She completely fumbled her relationship with Lyfe from the beginning by presenting her representative and getting him to fall in love with her. He would literally do anything for her and loved her to the end, but she would rather use him to be under a man who was using and abusing her and she couldn’t see it or that he didn’t truly love her at least not unconditionally like Lyfe did. All Lyfe wanted from her was to support his career by showing up and building a family with him, but she couldn’t even do that after so long. The level of her deceit was diabolical, but when you play stupid games you end up with stupid prizes.

Now Lyfe, I’m not sure why he continued to allow Snow to use him and disrespect him for so long, but I’m glad he finally realized he deserved better. Once Lyfe and Nasoni crossed paths, I knew he would eventually leave his situation with his wife. Every time that man told Nas that Ana was his daughter or called her their daughter had me smiling hard like he was claiming my kid. To see this level of comfort and safety between two strangers can only be described as true love because Lyfe knew nothing about Nas or the situation with her pregnancy, but once he saw her and that baby, he was all in and was determined to be there always and in all ways. Now him giving this baby his last name without permission was a bit unhinged, but it also showed his love and dedication towards this baby. I also loved that Prophet and Bianca stepped up as well and became the family that Nas needed because her mama and sister were complete trash.

I really liked Lyfe and Nas together and their buildup was easy despite him still being married, but once he decided he wanted it all with Nas and was done with his marriage, it was full steam ahead. I don’t like the way Lyfe handled to situation with Snow, but I understand his reasonings. On the flip side, I felt like her ending didn’t make it plausible for him to move on and have Nas as his wife because how do you do that when you’re still legally married unless some documents are fabricated to show that no longer being the case?

This was a pretty well written story that had me locked in from beginning to end and if you love forbidden romance or sports romance or even crime families, this story will not disappoint because it had all that and more.

This story was everywhere, and I don't necessarily mean that in a good way. In the beginning, we learned about Nasoni and her horrible childhood before going to live with her beloved grandmother. The grandmother passes away, leaving her everything, including a letter explaining where to find her estranged sister. Now, after all she'd been through, I was really rooting for Nasoni, moving to a new city to raise her unborn baby. Then she crosses paths with professional basketball player Lyft Cambridge (who doesn't let you forget he's a Cambridge, his family name rings bells, but mentioning it every other minute was so annoying). Lyft has his own drama with his conniving wife Snow. He's infatuated with the idea of having a family, but his wife has no interest in it, so he decides he'll become Nasoni's support system since she and her newborn have no one.

Personally, I think Lyft was delusional about his relationship with both sisters. On hand, he's all about making things work in his marriage but does absolutely nothing but complain about his wife not being supportive while everyone in his life says MOVE ON. On the other hand, he's running around claiming a child that's not his and playing house with a woman (Nasoni) he barely knows, but soon learns some key information that changes things between them. Rather than addressing the situation, he ghosts her for weeks, then claims to miss her and the baby. His family being on mob time with a whole clean crew was a pure waste of time, Lyft should've left well enough alone when Snow ran off with Kordell. At this point in the story, he knew where his heart lived. He should have considered Nasoni and kept his hands clean concerning Snow. This was my first read by this author, I might try another one of her works.

The Heart Wants What The Heart Wants!!

Lyfe is a superstar basketball player. He's a married man who is trying to make his marriage work. Star is his wife who just married him for his money, because she doesn't even like him she just tolerates him for his money. When unc brought the guys to the hospital with him, Lyfe took it upon himself to visit Nasoni and her daughter. Which in turn claiming her daughter as his own. Nasoni caught feeling for Lyfe because she hasn't somebody doing for her and expecting nothing in return. The name Cambridge carries a lot of weight in that city and when Lyfe gave Nasoni daughter his last name his family welcomed her and her daughter with open arms. Star is cheating on Lyfe with her first true love which he's tagging her every chance he gets. So his cousin took care of him and Lyfe took care of her sister. Lyfe got what he wanted, which is a family that he can call his own.

Nasoni and Lyfe, Finding Love At A Crazy Time

Ohhhh, this book was goodt!!…Don’t play with them TWINS or Mora!!!…Baby, they clowned in this book!!!..
Snow and her momma was a piece of work and Karma served them right on up!!!…
Crazy how Snow had it all and she allowed a person that didn’t value her to drag her alone just for his benefit and ride!!!…
Nasoni knows she had a praying grandmother above ground and then an angel when she was called home!!!…
Granny said she loved her enough for any mother that didn’t know how!!!…
Lyfe was definitely stuck in a triangle, but I love how he managed it and got the happily ever after with a woman that loved and appreciated him!!!…
It was crazy that Snow and Nasoni were siblings, but Snow was the one acting embarrassed!!!…
The gems that were dropped in this book about relationships and marriages were beautiful!!!…
I loved me some Bianca because she NEVER switched up!!!…

In the end the Rainbow will come

I was doing great until 69% in, I had to pause and reflect. I was experiencing too many emotions at once. Listen, the mama and the wife… the audacity was HIGH!

Lyfe struggled with believing what was right in front of him; being committed to someone for years and then they switch up on you, becoming unrecognizable is a hard pill to swallow.
*At what point does being loyal to a fault become too much?

Nasoni was dealt an unpleasant hand from childhood but her resiliency and the will to give her daughter what she didn’t have as a child, etc. was profound! Baby, she deserves the moon & the stars!

Loving + caring for someone the way you want to be loved + cared for and finally having it reciprocated is such a beautiful thing.

Lyfe & Nasoni deserved one another after the turmoil they went through.

Nice 🥰🥰

I really enjoyed this story.. now the drama that came was crazy but clearly the life of the Cambridge's are crazy. Lyfe and Nasoni were just cool with each other. It was like the instant they were around each other things around them moved at snails pace. There was no pretending and both of them could be themselves. I like how Lyfe did not play about Ana or Nas. It's like her grandmother knew they needed the fresh start and was making sure it happened. Now I was side eyeing Nas about the whole situation with Snow and it's only because I feel like his side wasn't looked at as valid. Imagine the person that was supposed to have your back literally did everything but have your back. Her feelings were valid but I think a little grace could have been given. Overall I liked this book and really loved the relationship and life they built with each other.

Nas and Lyfe

This was a good read. Nasoni needed a family and Lyfe needed genuine love. However, I wished Lyfe would’ve figured his mess out first before involving himself with Nas and her baby. I also wished that Nas would have erred on the side of caution when she learned he had a wife. I get that she didn’t have many people in her corner, but the amount of access and AUTHORITY she allowed this man to have over her and her child was absurd. Those were the times I felt she should have stood up for herself more as opposed to her outrage over that conniving Snow getting her karma. That said, I’m glad she found happiness and love in the end with Lyfe, but Des is still my favorite Cambridge.

Nas and Lyfe

I really enjoyed this book. Lyfe was the soft one out of the crew. He loved Snow even when she didn’t deserve it. I enjoyed how the roles switched in the book. Usually it’s the woman looking crazy, but this time it was the male character.

Nas suffered so much in her life. Her mother and sister wasn’t ish and they were both selfish. I understood why she was so angry. It was like he took her choice away to say good bye or have closure. This is what she needed after losing her grandmother.

In the end, love conquers all and everyone received their karma. I love the Cambridge bond.

The foolery but it was so good

I don’t think I like how my boy was presented as a big fool but I guess that was the point of the story. I’ll just accept that he was so family oriented and loving that he wanted to do everything the right way and fight for his family(argue with someone else). That wife, mother and side dude was extended the same energy that they gave off and I was here for all of it. In the end that family that Lyfe so desired was given but where is the epilogue with the one thing that he need to give to Nas?

Lyfe was such a hopeless romantic that he was blinded by Snow. The Cambridge family is not a family you want to mess with and Snow and Kordell found out (not quick enough though).

Nasoni came from a traumatic background before she got into her grandmother's care. One thing I can say, Nasoni's grandmother loved her like no tomorrow, ensuring she was set for life (no pun intended). Nasoni was on a mission to start fresh and reconcile with her sister but OH what she envisioned was far from what would happen.

If Connie writes it imma read it especially when one of the characters have the last name Cambridge. Baby the forbidden trope is this book did what it was supposed to do. Also we love a good stepdaddy trope despite there not being anything step when it comes to Lyfe being princess Ana’s daddy. This book was soooo good. The mess, the triflingness, the found family, the betrayal, the romance, all of it ate.

Found Family

Lyfe comes from a devoted family and all he wants is the same devotion from the woman he took vows with. Nasoni just wants to love herself and love her unborn baby. These two searchers of love stumble upon each other and create a found family. Yet there are connections and obstacles neither see coming. Connie makes you look beyond black and white to bask in the grey area. Take a leap it’s worth it.

Chosen family is often better than your blood family.

This book was nothing short of amazing. From the lows to the highs, Nas deserves it all, with happiness at the top of the list. Nas mama, Trina is pure trash, and so is her sister Snow. Trina repeatedly traumatized Nas, and Snow took her sister story and said it was hers. Snow then tried to act like she did not know who Nas was. Nas Grandma is the goat. She put her in a place where she could have a new beginning. Lyfe is a man who is in a sticky situation. However, I am happy with the outcome.

Loved it

Crazy how the love works. Even crazier how he ended up getting attached to his wife’s sister and her baby and didn’t even know it. His wife was a demon in human form. She got exactly what she deserved. She fumbled that good man and the sister picked him up and showed him exactly what true love feels like.

I honestly don’t know how to process what I’ve read. Idk if I’m being gaslit or the things in here happened fr.

Man idk what to say like. Nas was looking stoooopid. Sis was hella dumb. She should have placed all of them in that family on notice. Letting people you just met, tell you about your life. Nope. Sis was weak. After all her talk about the way Lyfe treated her (knowing that man was married), she let him back into her life bc of a few orgasms. Ma’am f/outta hereeeee

Lyfe? That dude is a grade-A PUNK. Weak.

And after everything I’m supposed to believe this is a romance f/outta here w that.

I’m so angry.

Life was my fav he really didn’t give a fuck about nothing when it came to Nas. Loved his loyalty but I was on his family side he needed to let that hoe go years ago when she stop coming to games and shit but everything happens for reason and without that hoe still being there he wouldn’t have met Nas

The writing for this was so bad with little to no flow. Things just happened and was suddenly explained out of nowhere. This had so much potential but it fell so flat making it incredibly generic.

Lyfe pissed me off the majority of the book cause, Sir!!!! Stand up! However, I did love how his weaknesses with Snow translated to strengths with Nas.

The title was accurate! All the Fools were Fouled. Also, I love Tas, he's my favorite. Can't wait for Reign's story.
