An ideal book for the reader who wants to learn about computers-without wishing to become a computer expert. Basic Programming provides a wide variety of sophisticated applications that do not require advanced techniques or complicated mathematics.
I loved this Book. It’s learning to program in BASIC written by the guys who created BASIC. That’s like reading a book about how to fly written by the Wright Brothers or Reading about how to play Basket Ball written by Dr. James Naismith. I realize these two gentlemen did not create computers or even computer programming but they created a programming language that opened up computers to people that would be otherwise left out including kids. You want a real mind blowing experience read the section on Markov Chains. Kemeny and Kurtz were arguably including the ground work for AI in 1967.
2021-03-17 This was one of my textbooks for an intro to computers class I took in college, about 1975. I remember being a little difficult to get into, but liking the logic and outcomes when I got my brain trained to use and stay in the structure.
We actually did a little programming in class with the teletype terminals hooked up via an audio-modem connected to the "Dartmouth" time-share system. Really dating myself, for sure.
