Delightfully Dark, Delightfully Perfect - I’m hooked, more please!

Overall: 5 of 5 stars Performance: 5 of 5 stars Story: 5 of 5 stars

In the wee hours an alert pops up on Sage’s screen … strange lights, shadowy figures, screams, and other unexplained occurrences at Rose Hill Asylum! Oh, no, no, NO! Sage … don’t go! But then, she wouldn’t be our Sage, queen of forbidden magic if she ignored that urge now would she! Joined by her sisters Lovage and snarky sweet Angelica, whacky Aunt Hecate’ and of course the cop I want to bop Sheriff Emmet Quill, madcap adventures and unsettling encounters ensue in “Butchered at the Abandoned Asylum”! The plot is delightfully unsettling, keeping me fully engaged from beginning to end! The mood is wonderfully dark, but beautifully balanced with subtle humor injected exactly where and when needed! Additionally there are some beautifully drawn and defined new characters and ne’er-do-wells mixed in with the familiar series regulars I’ve grown to love! Beautifully brilliant narration subtly sets the mood, while clearly identifying not only who’s speaking, but exactly HOW they are feeling! The smooth flow and consistency of voicing not only created a vibrant picture in my mind, but kept me fully engaged IN the story! I was enjoying this performance so much I did not want to stop! When I finished, the first thing I did was to listen again! I loved it that much! Five fantastic stars across all categories! Bravo!

Well... This was a frustrating book, to say the least.

I could forgive the mediocre story, but the writing was beyond clunky.

The main character is extremely indecisive and jerks around in so many different directs that weren't even relevant in the long run.

The dialog between characters was just unusual and awkward all the way around.

There's no suspense or mystery but everyone is carrying on like there is, then you end it on a generic cliffhanger and I'm sorry I just I don't think that I care anymore.

I was excited for this series, I thought the premise was great and I was so looking forward to it, I'm saddened by the wasted potential.

Renewal isn’t always the best option

Sage is in for some long nights and scary situations. Between her aunt’s illness and the craziness happening at the new building site, Sage truly has her hands full. It seems that no matter which direction she turns things just keep getting more bizarre. Well no one said life would be easy.

This is the second book in this series and well worth your time.

Aargh, now I have to read the next book!

Well of course I was going to read the 3rd book anyway. I’m really loving this series but I think it’s shorter than a couple of the others which is heartbreaking. I think I’m remembering this correctly.

Good but very dark

I really like this author, but am not sure that I am a fan of this series. It is so very dark for a cozy mystery and not as easy to read as other series like Mysteries of Meri. Do not read before bed if you are as prone to nightmares as I am.

This series getting better with each book

This isn't your normally sweet cozy read. It has some drama both worldly and "other" worldly. Not the easy to explain happenings. I do enjoy this author.

on the bright side the writing style is good, the author is a talented story teller just didn’t connect to the story itself

Butchered at the Abandoned Asylum

Oh boy. This is getting more interesting. At least they can’t say she’s not working for the family as well as the whole town.
