Belladonna I've built a comfortable, solitary life for myself out in the forest, away from the cruel judgment of the world. Everything is wonderful, until they show up. Violence. Death. Humans trampling through my sacred bone circle. I'd unleash hell on them, except for the captivating presence of a man the rest call René. He's the only thing that saves them from my wrath.
René Another night, another crime scene. Except this isn't just any crime scene. A circle of bones around a fresh corpse. A wild hallucination. Who is the otherworldly woman that visits me in the darkness? Is she friend or foe? And why do I find myself falling for her despite the promise of danger?
Corpse Pixie by Sinister Styx - Review by Jessica Stone
So first off this is the first book that I've read from this author. It is a shorter story I believe less than 100 pages, so it is a quick read. Honestly I could've easily read 280 more pages so I'm really looking forward to the next books and the series.
I'm pretty impressed with the amount of detail the author was able to squeeze into such a short story you got to know the characters pretty well and she portrayed their emotions (which were pretty high) really well. I really enjoyed the mmc, Rene he had some interesting character development. Right off the bat he's drowning in his grief so his turn around and "redemption" in this book is very satisfying. I could use ALOT more back story on Belladonna though or fmc, she is a half pixie half necromancer, and while you do get to know her and her end goals, I would love to find out what her history is.
I feel like this book was a pretty bigger teaser, it was well written, giving enough information about the world and characters to move the story along smoothly but holding back just enough to keep the reader wanting more. I'm ready for a full length novel with more from these characters and the supernaturals in this world, so here's to hoping this author delivers. Even without getting another longer book I would recommend this quick and fun read for any one in a rut or in need of a pallet cleanser. It'll get the job done and then some!
Corpse Pixie, Sinister Styx, Review, Itsy Bitsy Book Bits, Dark, Paranormal, Romance, Jessica Stone, September 2024
Being a short book, you would expect it to be over quickly. This story has everything you would expect from a longer novel yet the author packs it into 82 pages. I’m amazed. There’s drama, magic, the supernatural, a dark romance and a murder mystery to be solved.
Rene can’t move past the grief of losing his sister. Swearing to find her murderer, he visits the crime scenes of the other victims. Relying on drugs and alcohol to get through his days, now he’s hallucinating if a woman visiting him during the night. What exquisite pleasure!
Many years Belladonna has spent in solitude in the forest. Her serenity has been broken by the desecration of these women. The otter disrespect for the dead infuriates her. The only thing able to calm her is Rene; her new obsession.
This is the second book that I have read from this author. It’s truly amazing what she puts into her stories. The ending left off in a perfect way to turn this book into a series. I’m looking forward to more.
Corpse Pixie by Sinister Styx is a dark, haunting, and utterly mesmerizing tale that weaves together themes of obsession, grief, and revenge. From the moment I dove into this novel, I knew I was in for a ride that would blur the line between life and death, desire and destruction. Sinister Styx delivers a story that is as eerie as it is compelling, drawing readers into the twisted, macabre world of Belladonna and René.
Belladonna is unlike any protagonist I've encountered. She is fierce, otherworldly, and driven by a hunger for vengeance, but there's an undeniable vulnerability beneath her sinister exterior. Her fixation on René feels both dangerous and intimate, making her a character you can't help but be captivated by. Her motivation is clear—she seeks revenge for her people, and René is the key to that end. But what makes her truly intriguing is the way she lures him in, not with force, but with an unspoken understanding of his grief. She is, in every sense, his mirror—a kindred spirit who understands the weight of death because she's lived through it in her own way.
René, on the other hand, is a man broken by loss. His struggle with death, booze, and pills over the past three years makes him a deeply flawed and yet incredibly sympathetic character. He’s not just an easy mark for Belladonna; he’s someone who teeters on the edge of life and death, and her arrival pushes him further into that abyss. The way Sinister Styx describes his descent into obsession with Belladonna feels raw and visceral, especially as she leaves her literal and metaphorical mark on him.
Their connection feels fated but doomed, like two souls spiraling towards a shared destruction. Belladonna’s promise to relieve René of his pain in exchange for his life sets up a chilling dynamic. You know this story can’t end well, but you can’t look away as René is drawn deeper into Belladonna’s dark web. Their relationship blurs the boundaries of love, addiction, and the supernatural, and it’s this constant tension that keeps the pages turning.
Corpse Pixie is drenched in atmosphere—there's an almost gothic quality to it that adds layers to the narrative. The moments when Belladonna appears to René in the darkness are haunting, and I loved how the supernatural elements are intertwined with René’s personal struggle. Sinister Styx’s writing is evocative, pulling readers into a world where the dead are never truly gone and where obsession can consume you whole.
For readers who enjoy dark fantasy and paranormal romance with a heavy dose of psychological intensity, Corpse Pixie is a gripping, sinister, and deeply emotional journey. Belladonna and René’s tragic bond, their shared grief, and their inevitable destruction will leave a lasting mark—just like Belladonna’s touch on René. Sinister Styx has crafted a story that lingers long after the final page, a tale where love and death walk hand in hand, and where the living are forever haunted by the dead.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
“ Ever since I visited the latest crime scene, I feel my grip on reality slipping. Sometimes, I think I can feel my violet-eyed visitor lurking around me, but there's never anyone there when I look. And do I truly want her to be? It's frightening how I lose control of myself in her presence. But the grief is gone when she takes over, and I feel good, even it if is only temporary. "Where are you, mystery angel? I could use the distraction right now." Yeah, definitely cracking up if I'm calling for an illusion. ”
Corpse Pixie is another highly original and somewhat quirky short paranormal novella by Sinister Styx. This is a dark, fun, and sinister little tale that although short in length, leaves nothing lacking- with all the intrigue and impact of a much longer novel. Belladonna has been living as a recluse for quite some time now- setting up home in the forest, alone with nature. Until her peace is disturbed by humans desecrating her sacred space. One of the humans catches her eye, and a bit of an obsession starts. Rene has arrived at yet another grizzly crime scene- the murders are taking their toll on him- body, mind, and spirit. Now he has started hallucinating. But has he really, or is there something else at play here? As strange things begin happening more and more often, Rene finds himself caught in a web that he might not escape. And who is this mysterious woman that flits through his dreams? Who is behind the murders, and why? With danger mounting and secrets revealed, what ensues makes for a fantastic read… Ms. Styx has once again woven such a cleverly crafted story that had me flipping the pages, reading avidly, to discover what would happen next. The darkish, sinister feel really added to the impact of the story, and I loved the intense atmosphere that Ms. Styx created. This story definitely captured my attention right from the beginning with her unique, mysterious, moody, and slightly spooky vibe that managed to permeate through the entire story. The intriguing mystery and suspense pulled me further and further into the story as I tried to figure out what was going on and how everything would play out in the end. As I have come to expect from Ms. Styx, her story is crafted in a way that not everything is as it first appears, and as the revelations come, they are definitely unexpected. She left me guessing most of the way through about what would happen in the end. Again, very cleverly done... Ms. Styx didn’t disappoint, as her storytelling, writing, scene-setting, world-building, and dramatic touches are all very rich, imaginative, and vividly descriptive. She wove a lot into a small package, but expertly choreographs all the elements into quite a unexpectedly fun and engrossing read. Can’t wait to see what comes next… Happy Reading…
Rene has spent the last three years wallowing in grief over the loss of his twin sister, Cerise. He spends most of his time wallowing in self pity, drinking away his sorrows, and popping pills in an effort to forget his pain. For three years Rene has been trying to find the person who murdered his sister by visiting other crime scenes that appear to be murders similar to those of his sister. When he visits a murder scene where the body has been laid out with flowers and a circle of bones it feels as though somebody cared for the deceased person. Rene cannot help but feel as though something is different and senses another presence watching him. When he looks over, he catches a quick glimpse of someone with violet-colored eyes, but she disappears as fast as he saw it. Once Rene returns home, he continues to feel the presence and catches fleeting glimpses of an otherworldly female. He feels as though he is slowly losing his grip on reality and starts to question his own sanity.
Belladonna has been hiding in the forest and acting as a recluse for years where she can feel at peace with nature. Her life was a quiet one until humans entered her forest and desecrated the body, she had laid out so peacefully as a way to honor the deceased person. The humans came and carelessly tossed the bones into a bag and destroyed the shrine she had so lovingly created. When Belladonna sees Rene at the crime scene, she senses his grief and knows that he is different from the other humans. She feels as though they are kindred spirits because he has sensed deep loss and becomes obsessed with Rene. Belladonna decides that Rene will be the one to avenge her people and follows him home. She pops in and out and shows glimpses of herself, making her presence known to Rene until the time is right and she is ready to make him hers.
This was another delightfully sinister and dark novella by this brilliant and talented author. Albeit a brief read it packs a lot of punch and is beautifully written. The storyline is chocked full of suspense, danger, intrigue, murder, mayhem, pixies, magic, and the desire to seek revenge. The characters of Belladonna and Rene are engaging and intriguing. Both have a desire to help the murdered women but have their own ways of doing so. Rene is a shell of his former self after his twin sister was murdered. He has been slowly killing himself with booze and pills and has become obsessed with fining his sister’s killer. Belladonna senses his grief and becomes obsessed with making him hers. Rene and Belladonna do seem drawn to one another and have a connection. As their connection grows the two of them work together to try to find out who is murdering these women and dumping their bodies. I highly recommend this dark paranormal romance.
This is the second book I have read by the incredible mind that is Sinister Styx. You can read the synopsis a hundred times but until you read the first page and dive deeper into their world you never know what you’re going to find. Something I didn’t expect was to connect so much with Rene, having suffered the loss of my Irish twin in June 2020. So, I felt myself connecting deeply to him and understanding his grief and drive to bring justice for his sister’s murder. Told from two perspectives, Belladonna Shade, and Rene Corbin. Belladonna has been hiding for her survival in the woods, becoming content with the existence and plotting revenge schemes in her mind. Never imagining she would get a chance to follow through to have her own Thrall to help her get the justice her people deserve against the Hunters. Rene has grieved for three long years, only finding a distraction from his self-destructive ways three days ago at the latest crime scene. His twin sister Cerise and now three other women have become victims to an unknown killer. The interesting little twists and turns are one of the most captivating parts of this author’s work. Just when you think you know what to expect a little twist is thrown in deepening the plot and fleshing out the story more. Each discovery seamlessly leads to more questions with some answers in between. Belladonna and Rene become entranced with each other. She spent decades hiding without worry but since meeting him she’s lost count of the number of times she has left the woods to follow him, until she finally commits and makes him hers. Will they find the killer in time before they claim another victim? After all this time, can Belladonna finally get her people some justice? Does Rene truly mean more to her than a means to an end? The worlds the author can create in such a quick read is a true talent. More so the depth of the characters truly pulls you in with their claws holding on to you until the last word. I can’t wait to read more of the amazing books by this author, don’t think it’s possible to get enough.
I honestly did not know if I was going to like this book at first, but then it grabbed me and didn't let go. I'm desperately hoping the author writes more books with these characters!
I love that Belladonna is a hybrid pixie/necromancer. It's something I've never read about before, and the premise is an interesting one! She is written like a true pixie-sneaky, cruel, beautiful, dangerous, and remorseless. I adore her!
Rene is desperately seeking the person who murdered his twin sister and trying to cope with the loss in the only way he knows how-the bottom of a bottle. He starts seeing purple eyes and having euphoric experiences in a half-dreamlike state and believes he is losing his mind. It's Belladonna doing her pixie shenanigans. At first, you really dislike her for using and abusing him the way she does (at least I did), but somehow you end up liking them as a team/couple by the end of the book. The twist at the end (the murderer) fit perfectly. There is enough foreshadowing that I guessed it, but I didn't guess it so early that I was upset. The timing was perfect.
This is a quick, easy read and it is more plot than spice. Definitely check the triggers-it's marketed as a dark paranormal book for a reason, and mental health is important.
I want to know more. I want to read about the team saving more paranormal creatures. I want to know if two of the characters actually went on the date she promised and how it went. I want to know how Rene handles being tied to Belladonna in the long run. I want to know about Belladonna's past. There are so many ways the author could run with this book and these characters and I'm here begging for it!
René is a young man who is going through a tough time and to get himself through it, he is drowning his sorrows in booze, pills and solitude, apart from his one friend who tries to keep him alive, at least. Belladonna is a fae who watches over the dead and sees that they are respected, but she hides away in her forest where she is safe, that is until she comes across a man who could be the answer to a long lost dream.
Once Belladonna sets her sights on René, she cannot look away, she feels that he could be a kindred spirit, he has also suffered a loss which has left a deep mark, but she is cunning with how she approaches him and decides how to proceed with her plan. Meanwhile, René is having vivid dreams of a mysterious and enchanting woman, which he believe are starting to bleed Into his reality and that he is beginning to lose his mind after the last three years of abusing it, but is this figment just his imagination running wild, or is something truly out of the ordinary happening to him?
René has no idea what the future will hold for him, especially while he battles his new addiction, but he knows he has a dream to fulfil before he can surrender to his inner darkness and its deathly call, but will Belladonna decide how to keep René by her side forever and will he get a choice in the matter? This is a dark paranormal romance where dreams can either be made, or broken when death is in the air, as two individuals come together to try and make their dreams come true in this dark tale which pulls you in and keeps you on your toes throughout.
Corpse Pixie by Sinister Styx - 4 stars This is my first book by Sinister Styx. It was a short read but I could not put it down. We have a mystery, magic, paranormal with a bit of naughty and a little bit of a love story all intwined- but does the good guys win or is it the lesser of 2 evils? For only 82 pages it kept me intrigued.
Rene is a grief stricken brother wallowing in pills and alcohol but he swore he would find his twin's murderer. Visiting the crimes scenes of the following victims the newest one leaves him feeling like he is losing his sanity to the Mystery violent eyed angel.
Belladonna is a grief to the point of numb necro-pixie hides for hundreds of years until the time is right to take vengeance for the death of her family becomes obsessed with the human that didn't turn away from death and honored them victims when no one else would. Would he be the one to help her avenge her family's demise?
I found the book to be intriguing and kept my attention. I would like to see more detail in the story line of how Belladonna fell in love with Rene. She basically left him alone for 2 weeks and then decided she had feelings for him. Other than the research he was doing what made her start showing emotions and feelings. Being a novella I could use a little more detail in this area. I will say I was not expecting the end of the story and who the murderer is but it works for me! The end of the book shows that it could become a series and I can't wait to see what happens next!
Rene’s twin sister was killed and he made a promise to avenge her by finding the murderer. When another body appears the same way his sister's body was, he knows the killer is back. He’s trying his hardest to keep it together while working different angles. Rene thinks he is losing his mind. At night he keeps having sensual dreams about a beautiful woman so when he starts seeing her in the daytime as well, he knows it’s only a matter of time before he has a mental breakdown.
Belladonna is half pixie, half necromancer. When she sees Rene at the latest crime scene, she knows that he is going to be hers. She loves playing with him, making him crazy. They are kindred spirits. He lost his sister and she lost her whole family. She makes a deal with him, whether he agrees with it or not it’s happening. Belladonna will help him avenge his sister if Rene helps to kill her enemies.
I absolutely love this author! Their writing is so unique and interesting.Very fast paced and always has multiple elements. The author has a way with imagery, even though this was only a novella, it was packed full with detail. Magic, pixies, witches, necromancy, with the killer being a twist, you are in for an exciting ride with this read!
Corpse Pixie is a Dark Paranormal Romance that is a short story that is packed with, magic, drama, murder, greed, and pixie dust. This authors style of writing and her attention to detail along with her creative yet supportive and fully developed characters make for one heck of a ride. From the moment I started reading I knew this was going to be a hell of a ride. I couldn’t stop reading even if I wanted to there was no putting it down. This may be short but holy cow what a punch it throws and the twists and turns had me on edge trying to figure out what was going to happen next. René is suffering from the loss of his twin sister’s murder. He will stop at nothing to find the killer but what will happen when he starts seeing a silhouette in his dreams? Belladonna for years has been trying to keep herself safe by hiding out. But when bodies start showing up in her forrest something has to be done. Can Belladonna and Rene' find the killer? I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I look forward to reading more from this Author.
This was a great short paranormal romance. This author has an amazing way of creating new and unique stories in a way that captivates a reader and doesn't let go. This story was great with a murder mystery to solve, magical beings, and a romance that I didn't see coming. Belladonna is a pixie of the deadly kind. She has live a secluded life away from people and the risk of hunters. When Rene comes on her radar she sees her opportunity to use him to get her revenge on the hunters that hunt her and other paranormal beings. Rene is suffering from deep grief over the loss of his twin sister. He still doesn't know who murdered her but when another body turns up exactly the same he know he needs to get to the bottom of this. This is when he meets his angel. However Belladonna is a lot of things but an angel she is not.
What evolves is a story full of danger, secrets being reveled, and twists that I didn't see coming. The end also leaves an opening for other books in the series which I really hope the author creates.
5 stars I love a Dark Paranormal Romance tale and Sinister Styx certainly delivers on that. Corpse Pixie is another original and captivating read by Sinister. It is a quick short read. Being such a great read makes me wish it was longer but it packs so much in to a punch as it is. I don’t know where Sinisters stories come from but I love the uniqueness of them making for delightfully refreshing reads. This cleverly woven tale has a plot that is well thought out and a narrative that draws you in. Of course the story would not be complete without things that go bump in the night like zombies, witches, fae, hunters and demons and much more. Leaving the ending open makes way for some more delicious darkness to come. I can’t wait. If you are a Dark Paranormal lover then I highly recommended reading any of Sinister Styx’s work. There is no way you will be disappointed. No spoilers here because the story is so short you will have to read it to find out what happens.
I loved this dark paranormal romance that gave me all the feels of magic, murder, greed, pixie dust, twists and turns. This novella is short, easy read that really packs a punch and also the author and her creative mind and story-line is top notch!
René is feeling guilt driven all over the passing of his twin sister, unexpectantly and trying to cope, feeling alone, and would love nothing more to solve his sisters murder. When another body is found in the woods, like his sister, he vows to determine whom is capable of these heinous crimes. When René sees this beautiful fae woman in his dreams, little did René know she becomes a vital part of trying to solve these murders as well. When Belladonna and René team up, all heck breaks loose...with more magic, witches and also the love that Belladonna has for René .
Will Belladonna and René solve the murderous crimes before it is to late?
This is a fun, fantastic ride of a read and I highly recommend this story!
This short story had me hooked from the first page, being a short book, I thought the story would be rush and everything will be jammed into it and then had a bad ending, but boy was I wrong on all of this. Even for a short read this story flowed very well and was very well written. The story line itself was well done and flowed very well that I never felt lost or didn’t understand what was going on. The characters were so amazingly done that it was hard not to relate or find yourself rooting for them. Rene had lost his siter and trying to cope he turns to substance, but then he starts hallucinating a woman. Belladonna has lived her life in a forest and everything she has been living for is not all that great, but then she finds Rene and it seems to her everything has changed. There was so much packed into this story there’s drama, magic, the supernatural, a dark romance, thrill and a murder mystery to be solved.
And why do I find myself falling for her despite the promise of danger?" Does rene become friend or foe to this new girl, will have to read the story to find out. Great characters, great storyline, kept me engaged throughout, very quick read. I give this book 4 stars.
This is an author that I have read all her books and loved each one. I never hesitate to pick up one of her books as I know that I will be lost in her world from the start of the book to the end. This is a shorter story that I read in one sitting. I found this book to be well written and engaging. A dark story that is full of addiction, romance and something that two people can only find with each other. The characters are creative, strong and supportive. They could cause some triggers for some but if you get past those you will find an awesome story. I enjoyed watching their growth as well as their chemistry. I really enjoyed this story and what the characters added to the story. I found this an entertaining story and one you don’t want to miss. This is a must read story. I highly recommend this book and this author.
I LOVE this story! So interesting and exciting from the start and I just could not put it down! I read this in a day because I just could not stop, I had to know what was going to happen. Such an interesting story about a pixie with necromancy powers and an unsolved murder and just so much more! I can tell I LOVE it because I just want to read everything and anything from this author now it's just that good to me. Once I like a writer's style and storytelling, I just want to read all they have written. I love that this story is told through two characters the pixie and the man trying to solve his sister’s murder and how their fates intertwine and the thoughts and struggles each goes through throughout the story. I very much enjoyed this! Quick read and very interesting! So glad I read this book!
Corpse Pixie by Sinister Styx. For this book to be only 82 pages it was a fast paced, thrilling ride. Each page was packed with dark romance, mystery, drama, the supernatural and magic. Its the story of Rene who can't move past the death of his sister. He turns to drugs and alcohol to cover the pain and continues to visit each and every murder scene to investigate. He is determined to find the murderer. One evening at a murder scene he feels the presence of another being and that presence follows him home. Belladonna senses in Rene a person of deep feeling and thinks he can help her avenge his people. Rene is not so sure of this. Belladonna is also determined to make Rene her own and she will stop at nothing to do that. Filled with unknown things and mystery everywhere this book will keep you flipping the pages until you are finished! Can't wait to read the next book by this author!
I started this book and didn't put it down. It captivated me right from the start. It was not a long book by any means but I could not stop reading. .Rene, the main character, has lost his sister to murder. He will not stop until he figures out who killed her. Due to his wealthy family he is able to go to the crime scenes but is not getting privy to the information he needs. His and his sister's friend, Dahlia, his source of information is in the fire.
In the midst of all his grief and depression, Rene is seeing an illusion of a woman, mostly in his dreams. This book is quick to read but written with lots of thought and flowing pen to keep you reading. I will read this author's books again.
A dark paranormal book that sucked me in from the beginning. René is hurting after his twin sister is murdered. He can’t seem to process the fact that she’s gone and doesn’t want to stop searching for the killer. He visits crime scenes where other women are found to see if any leads might help find the killer. I can feel the pain and loss René is experiencing since I’ve lost several family members in my lifetime. Belladonna has been hiding for a long time to keep herself safe. When bodies are left in her woods, she must act to save her home. When she sees René, he intrigues her enough that sh starts showing herself to him in dreams. What does she want to do with René? Will they ever find the killer and keep others safe? That my friends, you will figure out as you read along.
Corpse Pixie By Sinister Styx 5 star review Once I started this book it was hard for me to put it down. In this book you will read from the POV of multiple characters. The main character is Rene who is just trying to seek justice for his twin sister. Along the way Rene’s path crosses with Belladona who has big plans for Rene. They form an unusual relationship and help each other reach their end goals. Rene also discovers that all of the paranormal beings from the fairy tails are real. Pixies, witches, vampires, etc. Rene and Belladona end up discovering a major bombshell of information that turns Rene’s world upside down, yet helps him find closure. If you like all things paranormal as well as a good mystery, this is the book for you.
I didn't really know what to expect with this book but I really enjoyed this story. It's a short story that I read in under two hours. Being so short I wasn't expecting there to be so much going on with the story and characters. It has everything that you would expect from a longer book, put into a much shorter one and this makes it really fast paced and not lagging at all. It has everything you love and expect from a dark paranormal romance book with magic, supernatural beings, murder, mystery, revenge, suspense and so much more. I would love to know more about the characters backstory and what the future holds for them. It left off in a way that might suggest that Sinister Styx may have more stories to write with these characters and I hope they do.
This was a great read. This story was short and quick but I was kept glued to the pages . I didn't know what to expect going into this book but I am so glad I took a chance because I loved the plot and the multitude of characters. Rene is looking for his sister's killer and he is dealing with her death by drinking himself stupid. Belladonna starts messing with him so he thinks he's losing his mind but she has long term plans for him. I wasn't sure if I liked her in the beginning but enjoyed her more as the story went. There is mystery, drama, love, murder, and more in this book. There are some other characters in this book that grabbed my attention while reading. I hope the author writes more books with these characters because I didn't want it to end. I recommend this book.
This is the second book I have read by Sinister Styx, but it will certainly not be the last. Corpse Pixie combines amazing world-building with fantastical, yet realistic characters. There is so much information packed into a short 89 pages. Belladonna, Rene, and Seraphine create a unique team of otherworldly beings set on bringing down groups of corrupted Hunters that have murdered innocent humans. The world building is detailed and immersive; I found myself living the dreams and nightmares along with Rene, feeling the need for revenge with Belladonna, and experiencing the beginning of feelings Belladonna and Rene begin to feel for one another. I wish there was more to this story so I could see what the future holds for our 3 friends.
Thank you BookSprout, and Sinister Styx for sending me this advanced review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This novella was dark, like really dark. The hair on the back of my neck was standing up the whole time. I also can't believe how much detail was able to be shoved in less than 100 pages. It was great!
I loved how interesting Belladonna was, and It's a new interesting type of fae I haven't encountered before. I adore the death aspect of her powers.
Rene was intense, filled with grief and also a need to find his sister's killers. Their relationship is strange, but somehow it really works.
I won't spoil the end, but this is totally worth picking up!
Hunters, Pixies, Witches, Necromancers and Shifters, oh my!
What do you get when all these different species togethers, add in some sacrifices and you have a really great story! Our story begins with Rene, devastated after losing his twin sister. In fact, he was so bad off, he piqued the interest of Belladonna, a half pixie, half necromancer with some strange abilities of her own. While short, this story still manages to tell a dark tale perfect for the Halloween season, filled with death and demons and control. It held my interest from the very beginning until the very last word. I highly recommend this story to anyone looking for a quick escape from reality.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Corpse Pixie wasn’t what I imagined it would be. It’s definitely original and interesting. There aren’t any heroes in this book (in my opinion) just lesser of a few evils. It’s a short book. You can read it in a few hours. It’s a page turner. I’ve never read a book with so many hybrid supernatural characters. I really hope there will be more like this one. There’s romance but it’s hard to describe what it’s like. It’s not hallmark movie romance and it kinda creeps up on the characters. I think my favorite character is Seraphine. She seems so interesting and I hope we get to learn more about her life.
Rene had been battling the demons in his head for three years since his twin sister, Cherise, was murdered. After the latest murder he begins to feel a presence around him. Glimpses of an otherworldly woman with purple hair start to plague Rene. Belladonna has spent years preparing and planning to find and destroy the hunters who killed her family. Rene is the key to all her plans.
This was my first necromancer book and it didn't disappoint. I enjoyed the storyline and that it was dual POV. The story flowed well. Overall was a quick and easy read. This was also my first time reading Sinister Styx and I will definitely be reading more.
A dark paranormal romance novella which had me hooked from page one. Belladonna is not human but has an obsession with a man, René. René knows deep loss and has turned to drink and drugs in order to block everything out. When he starts being visited by a ‘otherworldly’ woman he thinks he’s going mad. Belladonna believes they are kindred spirits and will give him relief from his pain, in return for his life. Although this is a quick read it has an intriguing storyline, fascinating characters and unexpected plot twists. The descriptive narrative brings both the characters and setting to life which made me feel immersed in the story.
