The teenage years are some of the most challenging times in an individual’s life. Emotional, environmental, and peer pressures make those years nearly impossible to navigate. Without a doubt, the “DBT Skills Workbook for Teens” is a timely resource. It's reassuring to know that there is a guide for understanding and dealing with those elements, with the end goal of reducing anxiety and stress.
In this workbook, the author delves into DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), a psychotherapy based on CBT (Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy). The author does so by breaking down effective approaches in DBT (i.e., mindfulness) to change one’s thinking and approach in challenging circumstances. It does more than just introduce the approach; it also breaks it down into steps for implementation.
Although this book aims to guide teenagers and their guardians through this process, it also holds relevance for the broader public. Even I found the provided information to be insightful. However, given the target audience, as a mother of three grown children, this workbook would have been extremely useful during their adolescence. With a six-year-old now, this book is exactly what I need. For those with adolescents, teens, or young adults, this book is a fantastic guide.
I bought this workbook for my nephew and niece’s. I was extremely impressed with how the book was laid out. It is very aesthetically pleasing. It’s colorful and fun, without being too childish. In today’s society It is very crucial to concentrate on Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), a thoroughly studied method of regulating emotions. I also personally found the chapter regarding social media to be the most useful for Teenagers today., especially in a world with technology being what it is. On another note I deeply feel Isabella Finn made all the exercises extremely relevant and practical. I appreciated that each chapter focuses on a different area of mental/emotional health or mindfulness. I wholeheartedly recommend this workbook for anyone looking to help their teenagers better mental health.
Growing up has never been very easy, but it is even harder in the 21st century. Whether the problem is fitting in at school, wearing the "right" clothes, hormones or social media, adolescence seems to be one stress-filled moment after another. This book may be able to help.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a form of talk therapy. It is designed to help find a balance between accepting who you are and changing the things you don't like about yourself. This book talks about using mindfulness to improve your mental health, and how to regulate your emotions before they get overwhelming. It also talks about neutralizing stressful and negative thoughts, and making them go away, permanently.
Even if this book helps reduce a teen's everyday stress level by only a small amount, it will have done its job. This book is very easy to read, and is well worth reading, for teens and adults.
This book is written at a level any teen can understand. The author, Isabella Finn, adds stories from teens who have been through DBT. At one time in my career, I facilitated a group with teens. I wish I had this book back then. Isabella also includes parents and caregivers in the teens therapeutic process. This is a guide tailored for teens to navigate their thoughts, feelings, and behavior. This is a good book for teens who question their reality. This book encourages teens to embark on a journey of self-discovery, empowerment, mindfulness, and managing emotions. She discusses the impact of social media, emotional regulation, and coping with stress. The author includes worksheets teens can use for their mental well-being.
I think there is a lot of beneficial information in here for young adults in general And I wish it had been a little less specific in that sense. I also think it would be somewhat difficult to get the average teenager to read this. I certainly did not read any self help book before the age of at least 20. The earliest that I remember choosing to read a self help book was 22 if I am remembering correctly. I could see this being assigned for a health class or for someone specifically studying adolescent psychology maybe. Perhaps this could be recommended by a therapist whose client is a teenager? I could also see that as a possibility. I hope that this information gets to the right individuals though.
This is well written and easy to follow. It has many bonuses to help you gain further knowledge if desired. It starts by telling you what DBT is and its advantages. It leads you through exercises to help you with self affirmations and reducing stress. It helps to deal with media and its negative affects. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to be the best they can be.
This a great tool! Dialectical Behavior Therapy is a great process to help teens recognize what matters; what they should accept and what they can work on to change about themselves. This workbook is wonderful in a school setting or a group clinical, as well as individually. You can expect change in mental clarity and acceptance of yourself, after this process.
This book has some really great exercises in it to help a young person cope with all of the stressors of daily life in a very healthy and healing way. Whoever uses this book at a young age will be far ahead of their peers when they hit their twenties! I highly recommend this workbook and the exercises contained within!
I really liked this book this book gives kids activities to manage stress. Mental health is very important in teenager's and I really think every teenager's should have this book.
