Patrick growled in frustration, “I do! Just not right now.” Knowing that she kept her pills in her purse, Patrick stepped further over the line than he ever had. “Let me see them,” he pointed at her purse. “I wanna see the pills.”
As Patrick stepped through the front door of the clinic, a tall, slender brunette was coming up the steps. She had her head down, and wasn’t watching where she was going. Patrick reached out in front of himself, and grasped her on the forearms so she wouldn’t bump into him. “Easy,”
“I didn’t get your name,” he grinned. “I think it’s only right seeing that you know who I am now.” “Tinsley,”
Was she flirting with him? More importantly, was he flirting back?
“So he’s married,” she smirked. He sure wasn’t acting like a married man the way he was looking at her. This one will be a challenge she thought.
Feeling bold, she stepped into his office, “Since it’s apparent that we’re the only ones here that are under the age of forty, do you want to grab lunch with me later?” “Uhhh…sure,” Patrick shrugged.
Patrick shook his head. What was wrong with him, and why was this side of him suddenly making an appearance? It seemed he just couldn’t help himself, and Tinsley wasn’t bad to look at either
He and Katie had walked by it, but they always ended up somewhere else. He was glad he was finally able to try it out. “So…tell me about yourself,” Tinsley picked up a sugar packet and began fingering it.
A sudden wave of guilt flooded him as he thought about his afternoon with Tinsley. He hadn’t done anything wrong. They’d only had lunch, but something didn’t sit right with him. He knew Katie would be upset if she knew he went to lunch with another woman.
He’d been all secretive lately. Coming home late, leaving earlier in the morning, snapping his laptop closed whenever she walked into the room, the list went on and on pointing out to her that he was hiding something.
she smiled seductively at him as she stepped behind his desk chair. As she leaned forward, so her mouth was right beside his ear, she placed her hands on his shoulders and whispered, “I’m really good at keeping secrets.”
His thoughts turned to the clinic, and how Tinsley had gotten a little bolder than usual with her flirtations. It was almost as if she was giving him an invitation to go home with her.
Katie wondering what had gotten Patrick so riled up that morning, and Patrick wondering why Tinsley would call him on his personal cell phone just to say hi, when she knew he was away for the weekend with his wife.
Patrick saw was red. It was the same number for all twenty-six calls with the same name lit up beside it. 617-238-5113 Tinsley Covington.
When Patrick took the sandwich from her hand, a small wave of guilt washed over him. He hadn’t mentioned to her that he’d been eating at Freeman’s almost every day and that he’d been going with another woman.
“Freeman’s Deli’s great isn’t it?” Tinsley smiled sweetly at Katie. “Patrick and I love that place,” she continued to grin as she watched Katie’s face fall. “Well, I need to get back to work,”
“She doesn’t seem that bad to me,” he crossed his arms over his chest.
Patrick cringed and gave a guilty smile, “She took me out to lunch on my first day. That’s where we went.”
“You went to lunch with her,” her voice rose an octave. “Patrick I can’t believe you.”
“We’re not buddies,” Patrick insisted. “Coulda fooled me,” Thomas called as he walked away.
She was pretty…and smart, he reasoned. She knew how to banter back-and-forth with him…he groaned. Was he sending out mixed messages?
“No!” Katie gasped. “I could never do that, but Patrick’s gonna hate me. He doesn’t want a baby.”
I’m going out. I’ll talk to you in the morning when I’ve had time to cool off,”
“Hey bro,” Thomas greeted Patrick as they passed by the door. “Everyone’s gone except your lunch buddy,” he snickered as if he was telling a joke.
“Nope, I’m here to unwind. I need it,” he winked at her. “I’m sure I can help you with that,” she reached over and placed her hand on his upper thigh.
“Oh yeah?” Patrick grinned drunkenly at her, the bourbon taking effect quickly due to his heightened emotions.
As Patrick disappeared into the men’s room, Tinsley stood outside the door. This is too easy, she thought. She had him exactly where she wanted him, and apparently he wanted to be there, too.
Patrick grinned and swayed slightly in his drunken state. She was a sight to behold, and she didn’t want anything but him. His wife had turned him down so many times in the past four months that his body was craving attention. His muddled brain didn’t care at the moment that this attention was not from his wife, the one he should be with. All he wanted was to escape it all, to make all the lonely nights, the lies, and the fighting go away.
“You’re stalling,” he growled as he pressed himself flush with her and slammed his mouth against hers.
An animalistic sound reverberated through him as her hands ran up his chest, and wrapped around his neck. She thrust her hips forward to rub against him as he nipped her lower lip. The aggressive Patrick, the one he’d long buried before marrying Katie, began to surface as the kiss grew. Gone were the soft caresses he shared with his wife, as rough grabbing and small bites continued.
Thoughts of Tinsley and their moment in the hallway began to assail him. As the guilt settled deeper in his heart, he struggled to breathe. How could he have done that and what exactly would it mean for the two of them at work?
Now, after seeing the lipstick on his neck, and remembering what almost happened, he felt dirty and cheap.
What would she think if she ever found out about Tinsley? Would she be able to forgive him? Probably not.
His demeanor would change in an instant when the phone would ring, or an email would come in. It was almost as if he’d turned into a totally different person. He’d go to work one way, and come home another.
“You know you want to,” came a woman’s voice. “You seemed to like it the last time.” Last time? Katie crept closer as a knot began to form in her stomach. “That was a mistake,” Patrick’s low mumble came next. “Your dick didn’t think so,” the woman cooed.
Katie sobbed. “He cheated on me, Hannah! How am I ever going to trust him again? How can I bring a baby into that type of relationship?”
“You screwed this up all on your own. You let that woman get close to you. You admitted to me that you flirted with her and that you liked the attention. You told me that you felt the thrill of being pursued that it made you feel desirable,” Matt scowled.
“You may not have had sex with her, but you still betrayed your wife. Your heart may have remained faithful, but your brain didn’t.”
