There is a multi-authored book so the quality of the writing reflects that.
The Kindle book is badly formatted with the captions for the many photographs, sometimes as many as two pages after the photograph and in the middle of a paragraph, thus taking the reader out of the story. Eventually the reader simply ignores the photographs and the captions all together in order to not get bogged down in trying to unite the photograph with the correct caption.
If you are looking for an interesting book about the 1904 World’s Fair full of interesting historical facts about the Fair, this is not the book for you. The book focuses on the racism of the times and less about the Fair itself. The title of the book is misleading - perhaps a better title would have been Racism and the Complexity of the 1904 ….
Each chapter is written by a different author and, rather than compile all the citations by chapter at the end of the book, the citations are listed at the end of each chapter - again taking the reader out of the story while she moves past the citations in order to read the next chapter.
This book is not for readers who are interested in the historical details of the 1904 World’s Fair..
My thanks to the Missouri Historical Society and Edelweiss for an eARC.
