Let me start my review by admitting I'm not familiar with Japanese folklore about the yokai and its roots in Shinto. I was eager to learn more, and a few of the cards shown on promoting the deck really appealed to me.
I love the XVIII The Moon and its central Hare character. The two little bunnies with turtle shells are quite intriguing and I'm very curious about their meaning.
A couple other cards, IV Emperor/Coiled Dragon and Queen of Swords, I could somewhat relate to in a "Pleasure to meet you"-sort of way.
But the imagery in the rest of the deck simply doesn't "vibe" with me, and some I simply couldn't take (like the Devil).
The accompanying small guidebook does give a glimpse into the meanings of the spirits, animals, and creatures -- I just feel that I should know more about the folklore. Perhaps that would help me get attuned to the cards' energy.
The artistry is really nice (the imagery *does* evoke emotion!), and the overall card stock, printing, and packaging is very high qualify.
Sadly, I can't return the deck. Priced at nearly $30 without tax, that hurts the purse!
