Today we accept the cross as the symbol of Christ's crucifixion yet in the Gospels no disciple mentions the cross instrument being used to crucify Christ. The instrument used may have been a single beam or a T for all we know as the Greek writings of the Gospel refer to 4 different words interpreted as crosses but not necessarily relating to crucifixion . Prior to Emperor Constantine Jesus was referred to as a fish till Constantine saw his cross vision in the sky prior to battle. After this battle victory and following Constantine's conversion to christianity 25 years later on his deathbed cementing christianity as the empires religion, the cross was increasingly used to represent Jesus and his crucifixion. But prior to Jesus's birth the cross was used to symbolise fertility and found in archeological digs around the world usually shown penetrating or within a circle. An interesting look at how the cross was taken and used to become a key symbol to Christians.
Most exceptional book, great documentation, a wonderful addition to anyone that enjoys researching the evolution of religion and origins of Christianity!
