Until 2010, Ashe was a director of a regeneration company before deciding there had to be more to life and leaving to pursue a lifetime goal of self-employment.
Ashe has been an avid reader of erotic romance for many years—historical, contemporary, fantasy—you name it. Now, at last in control of her own time and working from her home in rural West Yorkshire, she has been able to realise her dream of writing sexy and compelling stories herself.
She draws on settings and anecdotes from her previous and current experience to lend colour, detail and realism to her plots and characters, but her stories of love, challenge, resilience and compassion are the conjurings of her own imagination. She loves to craft strong, enigmatic men and bright, sassy women to give them a hard time—in every sense of the word.
When she’s not writing, Ashe’s time is monopolised by her role as grandma to a lively toddler. She shares her writing space with a tortoise called Teefer.
Abigail Fischer's life is completely altered when she finds that she has been left a controlling share of a construction company in the will of a man she has never met. Cain Parrish, the dead man's nephew, has worked hard for and expected to inherit the company is disturbed and upset that a woman he has never heard of and who has no experience in this field now owning a majority of the company. Despite these feelings, when Abigail and Cain start spending time together, they realize that they are incredibly sexually compatible. Abigail has a pretty unique personal secret that is becoming more and more debilitating to her and now threatens the future of her company.
I found the storyline of this book very unique and fresh. The issues faced by the characters in this book are not common to this genre of book, and I found that really exciting. I was completely hooked into this story right from the beginning. It was easy to connect with Abigail and really feel the wide variety of emotions she experiences while dealing with her own issues and the new challenges thrown into her life. Getting to experience her discovering her full sexuality was also really exciting. Despite her lack of experience, she was honest and open about her desires and fantasies. Cain was a pretty spectacular Dom, and it turns out, a wonderful man in general. Being introduced to him the way we are in the story, I was surprised how quickly I came around and became a big supporter of Cain. This book was a sexy surprise that dealt with some really tricky and unique issues. I really enjoyed this and will gladly read more by this author in the future.

This book seemed so interesting by the book description. I however and this is just my own opinion found this book very difficult to get into. As I rate it a low 2 I feel the need to explain why which ends up as a spoiler~
I think a title The Life of an illiterate through the eyes Abigail Fischer would be a fitting title then making~ The Three R's which by the way stands for imagined roadblocks. The Book is listed under genre of erotic romance. There were a few sex scenes nothing that stood out at all. One of the main Abigail characters is submissive in all aspects of life so she follows and let's Cain take charge. Abigail Fischer had leukaemia as a child a miracle to survive. She was found years behind in school. She received tutors as a child before and after treatment and could not read. She admitted she was lazy never cared and never tried after being put in special classes. She claimed embarrassment over this yet at age 22 she works at the school she attended as a cleaner and has a friend who always offered to teach her but she stated she just didn't care. This is what turned me off to entire book. After defeating such odds she doesn't choose to improve herself!!! This happens up until page 270 and book is 310 pages! Abigail then receives an envelope she can't read and has Sally read it for her the one who always offers to help and the letter states she now owns majority in a business from the will of James Parrish.Ok here's the other issue throughout entire book she never looked into, asked around, or anything to figure out who this guy was but left her a business she didn't know why goes on her merry way about it bothersome I say. Cain Parrish the nephew thinks she was his whore or something but eventually realises that's not true. In the will which was sealed tight. Abigail can't give away anything for five years. He offers a room in his house for her to stay then she can have the flat above the business when boiler is fixed. She decides to go and boom they have sex with some spanking of the arse. While he is falling in love she is continuously trying to cover herself so he doesn't find out. She actually thinks she will get away with it until she asked to do office stuff and well amidst it all almost lost the business on account of measurements and a letter. Cains secretary finally realises the truth and promises to keep her secret. The lights finally turn on she decides to takes a holiday to finally learn to read from Sally and right before she leaves Cain thinks she is destroying business on purpose tells her to stay and fix she finally says no and goes she now finally wants to read OMG. She goes back home thinking all is over until Cain shows up. He knows she can't read his secretary finally told him after he was going to go after her for sabotage. He loves her anyway and helps her throughout. On the last two pages we finally find out through a letter how she knows James. He had it set up to arrive to her one year after his death. He was the bone marrow donor who saved her and always looked into what was going on her life. He felt connected to her but couldn't say as he was donor and thought of her kinda as a daughter and did this hoping she would read and improve her life then the darn book ends!! We hear 270 pages of her I can't read I'm lazy I don't want to read it's too late but can draw! Then last 40 pages have good depth and drops off. It was a boring to read but could have had promise atleast for me. It was a first reads book and my first read of this author.
4 fangs This book was gifted to me by Paranormal Romance and author who rock and Ashe Barker. After tragedy hit her at a young age (leukemia) Abbie found herself behind in school and pampered by a mother that didn’t want to force her to do anything. Often Abbie would fake weakness and feeling ill so she didn’t have to deal with school and the tutors, but unfortunately it didn’t help her into adulthood. Now 22 year old Abbie barely knows how to read and write, never graduated, and is working at the elementary school she went to as a child because the understood her problem. Up until now Abbie was fine with her situation and never had a reason to improve her life with learning. Then it happened. She received a letter in the mail and waited days to open it because she knew she couldn’t read it and make since of it. That is when she approached Sally and had her read it. Sally read it and told Abbie she inherited 2/3 of Parrish Construction and that she needs to contact the solicitor immediately and the other owner Cain Parrish. She didn’t understand, it must be a mistake. But it wasn’t and after Abbie hung up on the solicitor she found out how important it was to her to go through with this life change when Cain showed up and made her know she wasn’t getting a free ride she had to work like everyone else. Unfortunately with her little problem she couldn’t and found herself in a relationship based on lies and dominatrics with Cain. Will the new found Dom except Abbie and help her with her problem? Will the business serve? Will Abbie find out who and why she inherited 2/3 of Parrish Construction?
I don’t know which character I liked. I was intrigued by all of them and found it interesting to read a Dom and Sub book for the first time. Wasn’t too intense and had a great store line. This book is Erotic romance and is definitely 18+. Great for people who are wondering how a Dom work and first time experience.
It you can suspend what you think you know about how two people come together in a relationship and explore a BDSM relationship,at that, then this book if for you. A very hot, quirky read about Abigail, a 22 year old with a shameful secret and Cain, an extremely HAWT Dom who owns a construction company. They meet under very odd circumstances, are forced to co-exist with each other, and somehow develop a D/s relationship in the North of England. Hard to explain. But the author's voice is superb. She really captures the snarkiness of Abby and Cain. I must say that I had some real difficulty with liking Abby and her decisions but not having the same sort of life experience, I can only think how hard it must be for people to admit their failings. When she refused to tell Cain why she'd screwed up so badly, I wanted to scream! Cain was my favorite - all yummy Dom! I sort of wondered, though, and this is what I mean by having to suspend thinking about more "traditional romances," about how and why he came to like Abby so much. You really didn't get a sense that he had a past - I mean he must have - he's Cain and drop dead gorgeous - but there is never any mention of his having had a submissive before. I also had some trouble wondering how a 22 year very isolated young woman with her specific kind of issues could get into and love the submissive role, but sometimes things just hit you at your gut level and you realize that is where you are supposed to be. That must be how Abby felt. But the book was so good, I just went with it and totally enjoyed it. The author also captures the beauty of North England in her writing. I could see the North Sea crashing on the rocks. The final twist at the end was what boosted this from a 4 to a 5 for me. So well done.
Abigail has a deep secret. A shameful one she has carried all her life. Struggling to make ends meet when a unexpected windfall. Is it a cruel joke? How can she inherit half a company? Cain is the owner of the other half and her very reluctant business partner. Angry at first, Cain welcomes her into the business and into his bed. Despite Abbie’s excitement for a new opportunity in life she knows she needs to do something to fix her problem. And quickly before she loses both her new relationship and her new love.
As Abbie struggled, I found myself in tears. Eventually her secret begins to catch up to her, despite her skills of keeping it hidden for so long. There were a few times I wanted to shake Abbie for not telling Cain. And Cain, how could he not figure it out! Despite all her issues, I feel they are a sweet couple and even though this was a quick read for me, I was more than satisfied with the whole book.
If anyone has read anything by Ashe Barker, you know she has a taste for hot steamy BDSM scenes. Now I’m not saying this book doesn’t have them, however, I think the focus is less on the sex and more on the people. Of all the stories I have read by Ms. Barker, This is the most emotional one. Of course you can feel free to disagree with me. Read The Three R's and see if you agree with me.
I received this book from JeepDiva for the express purposes of an honest review. The opinions and rating of this review are solely mine and in no way was I compensated.
This is a powerfully emotional read. I don't think I've encountered this subject matter yet in anything I've ever read. Abbie's secret and her desire to rise above it kept me on the verge of tears through most of the novel. This novel shows how just one person can change another persons' life by doing nothing more than having faith in them, loving them, and believing in them.
I don't have a submissive personality, so that part of the story, I only barely related to. I can see how she enjoyed things as an act of pleasure and a prelude to sex, but as actual punishment, I don't know, though I guess I would prefer it to having screaming matches with my significant other, and only if I was allowed to reciprocate if they deserved punishment. So maybe I'm a Dom...
Whereas there is a cultural difference between my world and Abbie's that kept me from completely understanding certain idioms, slang, and landmark descriptions--I'm still not following the mistake with measurements, I mean I would have taken him to mean inches and feet as well :)--I found the information refreshing and fascinating.
I started this book a while ago and just finished it I loved it! I got distracted with some other book challenges. I just love the characters so quirky and interesting. I enjoyed this story and I hope to see more books from Ashe Barker soon. I think she has a keen sense how to build a story and provide enough information to form an idea who the characters are and then a sexy tale follows that unravels more of the dynamics of the characters and what their aspirations are. I am a fan!
This was a really unique story. At first I wasn't sure if I was going to like the characters, but Barker slowly reveals their softer sides and vulnerabilities. Also, loved the snarky sense of humor and hot sex scenes. The writing was beautiful as well. I'm so glad the last chapter answered all the questions and showed us how the characters came full circle.
