I felt the author's pain; she has been through a lot, and I’m glad the 12-step program worked for her. However, this book feels more about her story than helping the reader to heal from codependency. While she vividly describes her unstable childhood and adopts a victim mentality, she completely avoids self-reflection as a parent. For example, she mentions her daughter’s struggles with substance abuse but fails to examine how her own patterns, inherited from her parents, may have contributed.
This lack of self-analysis weakens the book’s credibility. Healing from codependency requires brutal honesty and self-awareness. While her story of struggle is powerful, its impact is limited without full picture of the situation and deeper reflection and accountability.
