How to Learn to Code & Get a Developer Job

Rate this book
Hey @ r/FreeCodeCamp friends. I just published my book: Learn to Code & Get a Developer Job in 2023.
And I made the entire book freely available on freeCodeCamp.
When you read it, you'll learn how to build your coding skills, personal network, reputation as a developer, and ultimately get a developer job.
Back in 2017, one of the Big 5 book publishers from New York City reached out to me about a book deal.
I met with them, but didn't have time to write a book. I was too busy running freeCodeCamp. Well, last year I finally had time to sit down and write it.
The book contains my insights into learning to code and getting a developer job, gleaned from: learning to code in my 30s, then working as a software engineer, then running freeCodeCamp for the past 8 years. More than a million people now visit our charity's site every day to learn about math, programming, and computer science.)
1 was just an English teacher who had never coded before. And I was able to learn enough coding to get my first software development job in just one year.
All without spending money on books or courses. (I did spend money to travel to tech events. That money was well spent.)
After working as a software engineer for a while, I wanted to help other people do the same. It took a while to reach this point. But now people around the world are using freeCodeCamp to prepare for their first job in tech. A vibrant community has gathered around it. Including you all :)
Over the coming months and years I'll further update and expand this book. (Unlike a physical book or a PDF, I can make quick updates at the same URL.) 1 would welcome your feedback. Maybe I should talk more about getting freelance clients?
Working with recruiters? Negotiating?
My full book is now available here. You can read it on your laptop or phone. Be sure to bookmark it.

I listened to the audiobook on Spotify for pure curiosity.

Even though I'm not a dev, nor I'm learning to code right now, I enjoyed it. And perhaps in the future this book is going to be my primary source to get into the world of coding.

I listened to this on Spotify

Quincy did us all a solid by providing this content - much like freeCodeCamp - for free.

I went through a boot camp and am a few years out from that program. This book covers and contains valuable information, resources, and recommendations for anyone learning to code, considering learning, or in the field.

You’re doing yourself a favor by listening to/reading this book.
