Goulash laughs

I had to laugh when I went down the list of contents and saw goulash recipes because it reminded me of an incident in my scouting days when a new assistant scout leader spent hours one day preparing a Hungarian goulash which we all hated, but luckily our food tent contained enough bananas and cheese to make enough sandwiches to feed us.
It’s nice to see oils being portrayed as healthy fats in the Dash Diet. The honey drizzled oats with berries recipe was spotted in another cookery book recently but the method of preparation is different. Like the other book this particular title also makes excellent use of photography to highlight its wares. Other recipes are new to me; like figs and cottage cheese toast (sounds yummy). The smoothies look the business too.
There’s that word again used in the USA ‘Cilantro’ but not widely used on this side of the Atlantic. I remember hearing what the equivalent was but can’t remember now; coriander leaves I think. The salads all look nourishing enough.
One doesn’t hear much about cabbage anymore especially now that we have broccoli but the cabbage and herb broth looks delicious. It looks healthy too!
Tilapia soup? I went one time on a trip to Israel and we were brought out on the Sea of Galilee and shown the ancient ways of the fishermen as they fished for tilapia. A bony fish, but very tasty. The Mediterranean Sea bass soup also looks good.
And so to the goulash! Interesting that the first recipe uses tofu which is used by vegetarians as a substitute for meat. The sweet potato one looks good too and I don’t think today’s scouts would be turning their noses up at the quality of these dishes.
No real surprises in the poultry and meat section except the marriage between certain foods, lemon and chicken for instance. The fish dishes are as expected although I would imagine catfish is a scarce commodity on this side of the Atlantic.
On to snacks. There’s that hummus again. I believe hummus to be an acquired taste; a bit like drinking a pint of Guinness for the first time. I’m not a great fan of quiches either although some people love them. I prefer pizza myself. The grilled pineapple and mint skewers look like party heaven.
It’s also nice to see some healthy desserts. Nothing like rounding off a good meal. I’ve one word for the desserts: yummy. The Australians might say umami although more in vogue with meat dishes.
On a personal level I like the look of the 56 day plan; in particular the calorie count which falls below the recommended daily intake for both men and women. The book concludes by showing weight conversions and shopping lists. The author Ava Fit describes herself as a culinary visionary and who am I to argue with that. I’m going to award this one five stars because anyone who can make beans and toast look so appetising deserves our applause, and for someone who strives to make all our lives better through watching what we eat.

Pretty good diet plan

The beginning pages are a good overall explanation of good health, nutrition, and overall eating habits. It’s concise and gives you enough information to get you started. The recipes all look very good and they’re not necessarily unlike other dietary recipes, it is always a matter of doing it. It’s easy to say, make better choices, but difficult when you’re passing McDonald’s or Fosters freeze, when Halloween comes and you have bowls of candy sitting on the table because your partner refuses to give up on giving out candy, lol but overall it was a fun read; and I’m going to try out some recipes. Oh, and also the recipes are short, concise, and easy to read and prepare.

Must Have

This cookbook for me is a must have! Turning 50 next week, I have eaten whatever I wanted whenever I wanted , which led me to health issues to address. Now I vow to change my bad, undisciplined eating habits to a more healthy lifestyle of meal planning. I am so looking forward to the recipes in this cookbook!! Having 6 children to raise I need to be around for them especially losing my own father when he was only 57 and not eating healthy etc.
I highly recommend this cookbook!!

I paged through the recipes. I am afraid that I'm too fussy a eater to find any that I would try. I am not on the DASH diet even with issues of high blood pressure.

The cookbook is well put together and includes expainations at the beginning and throughout. Nice photos also.

Great recipes and plan

This cookbook has a lot of really good fish recipes, which I’ve been looking for. The meal plan at the end is nice and varied so you won’t get bored, and it includes a comprehensive shopping list for each week. Very good cookbook.

The book could only be read in the Kindle app. However, the food pictures are beautiful and the recipes are are easy to follow. I liked the nutritional information provided beneath each recipe. The author chose to provide ingredients in volume-based cups instead of metric-based weights. Perhaps providing both measures in a future edition would be beneficial? Overall, its a nice recipe book that provides easy to follow context about the DASH diet.
