A moving tribute to a life in storytelling, to life in America and all the messy complications of how to share it with one another and the greater public and keep your sanity by one of the greatest photographers of our time.

I just finished reading "This is My Life I'm Talking About" by legendary photographer, Danny Lyon, and I have to say, I found it to be a staggering work of art and one of the defining chronicles of the second half of the 20th century that I have read (and that's saying something). Danny Lyon may be one of the towering figures of photography of the last 60 years, but his writing I'd put in the same league as two of my favorites (Bukowski and Fante) in terms of a stripped down capturing of events, moods and emotion without overwriting. Yes, I think he can take his place in the pantheon of great non-fiction writers from the 60s and 70s but because he lived it, it feels like a punch to the gut but told as a completely relatable human experience. I knew him from the Bikeriders of course, but I had no idea of his role in the Movement and of his profound friendship with John Lewis or his acts of humanizing prisoners. All I can say is thank you to him for sharing his life and putting it all down on paper. It is a beautiful, one-of-a-kind experience and I will be talking this one around and sharing with with as many as I can. My big question is: why isn't this being published by a major American imprint? It certainly deserves to be. Truly.

This book was incredible! I almost never read memoirs, biographies, or autobiographies because they are usually terrible. I am very glad I picked this book up and started reading it.

There was not a dull moment in the entire book. I was hooked from the beginning. It is beautifully written and weaves a wonderful narrative of a magnificent life.

This photographer stood close documenting a gang rape, published it and got famous for it. Who knows how he acted without the camera. Sickening! He should be convicted together with his biker gang.
