George Green was born in Dublin in 1956 and brought up in Tipperary, where he lived in a house built on an ancient burial mound. After university he embarked on a career in sport and leisure in the hope that it would not be too difficult and help him meet girls. Ten years later he realized his mistake, took an MA in Creative Writing, began teaching and now works for the Department of English and Creative Writing at Lancaster University.

In my opinion Green falls for the typical trappings of writing a dating guide (or any kind of self-help advice for that matter): He takes himself far to serious, and actually believes that his audience are men capable of a) change and b) that they need nothing more for it than a guy telling them the kind of stuff we all instinctively know.
Well, almost. I would heartily disagree with Green that women do not approach men to talk to them, but the idea that they don't certainly fits with what his likely audience is willing to believe about women.

So, if it was as easy as Green makes it out to be, for us humble advice seekers, why would we read dating-guides?
Oh, right, for the entertainment value, which I find very little of in this book. It's not the worst in the field I read, but it's still far from being good.

And no, I'm not denying that there's a lot of common sense in what Green advices - but that's the thing, it's common sense; if we actually had to be told - well, uhm, then that in itself should tell us that we are looking in the wrong place for help (not to mention that the girls and women out there are better off for the fact that we then are, and will stay, single). :)

I really liked this book -- full of great information without all the BS. Actually got me thinking about some things to ask myself before getting back into the dating scene. For example, "What did I want to get out of the dating experience?" Sounds like a simple question right? Not really though, when you decide to be honest with yourself. The author also lays out some very practical steps for getting the type of relationship you are looking for and increased communication skills. Recommend this read for anyone looking for serious advice.

The five-step plan is a killer feature too! If you follow those key points, you'll be ready for anything. I'd seriously recommend this guide to all my friends and family alike that are looking for the next best guide for the dating scene. It brings the results! Thanks for reading!
