I began this eBook without prior knowledge of Google Visualization and can recommend this book as a convenient entry point for appreciating and being taken on an initial, practical "degustation" of what Google Visualization has or will have to offer. Not one to be just read casually on a mobile device, I found that absorbing the content worked best when opened on the same machine one is practising on, due to the many code snippets and links to additional content for learning or practice. "Essentials" in the title is not a pitch to be the ultimate reference on the subject; it's a reference to the staged learning, step-by-step examples, caveats and explanations that help to reduce frustration and push faster up the learning curve, which can seem steep for non-developers (by profession) who haven't worked with Google APIs before. That being said, the writing can come across as subjective in places, reading more as opinion than instruction; less of a dry textbook and more like a lecture. If you're looking for a guided tour of the Google Visualisation API, then this book is worth a look-in.
