Written in an engaging style, and avoiding legal jargon, this new edition of Introduction to the English Legal System is an ideal foundation for all those coming new to the study of law. It covers how law and the legal system have developed over recent years, and how they may develop in the future, and questions the extent to which that system is fit for its purpose.
Not quite as good as Glanville William's text Learning the Law in terms of sheer usefulness, but it is a very comprehensive look at the existing English legal system and the forces for change acting upon it. Perhaps the only major downfall (aside from too many side-tracks) is that the author's political bent (liberal) comes out quite clearly. On the one hand, this is helpful to know so that the reader can switch on the appropriate bias filter, but on the other hand it still makes me wonder what is being left out.
