This book clearly explains proven and practical approaches in education and care that will enable young people with AS to thrive. The author uses anecdotes from his extensive teaching experience to illustrate potential problems relating to anxiety, communication, social rules, relationships and classroom behaviour, and put forward solutions.
Mainly relevant to young people and parents or educators, this is an account of a school set up specifically for students with Asperger's. All of the case studies are from students at the residential school, the main topics covered are how the educational system was developed and refined to accommodate individual needs, while preparing students by acclimatizing them to situations in which they would find themselves later in life, such as how to relate to neuro-typical people in work settings or interviews. There are a lot of situations and learning obstacles covered, and the book includes letters from students and their parents detailing what they did after leaving the school to give examples of how the school was or was not successful in the eyes of the students themselves. An interesting read, but as mentioned, only really covers things from the perspective of school age children and their teachers so probably less relevant for adults.
