Leadership in a Diverse and Multicultural Environment provides leaders with the tools necessary to effectively interact with all individuals. Although much of the research related to multiculturalism has focused on expatriates and international assignments, the book also focuses on leaders in domestic organizations, as they can benefit from developing their own multicultural awareness, knowledge, and skills. Effective leaders can shape the culture of their organization to be accepting of individuals from all races, ethnicities, religions, and genders with a minimum of misunderstandings.
This was good for what it was: a survey of seminal literature establishing the business case for multiculturalism and diversity. However, it was not an especially useful resource for developing awareness, knowledge, and skills as a leader of a cross-cultural workforce. I'm not sure the final three chapters even mentioned AKS. it was also a little disorganized, like a collection of interesting thoughts without a narrative.
This book addresses diversity training more broadly than just gender. The best part of the book speaks eloquently about multicultural perspectives and value differences as analyzed by a number of different leading researchers. Ideas such as individuality v. group centered culture and how that may play out in the workplace were key.
This book has some good thoughts and ideas for diversity training for businesses. Addresses some broad concepts in an interesting way. Overall, this book was straight forward, no frills, and kind of dry.
