I think everyone should read this book - whether you have cancer, know somebody that does, or just want to be prepared, this book is a great resource to have on hand. Knowledge is power, and I think we need to wake up and start looking at W H Y so many people are getting and suffering from cancer (Diet, lifestyle, genes, etc.) instead of just accepting that many people will get cancer.

Written by naturopathic doctors, and endorsed by medical doctors. Well researched. Easy-to-read, and useful. It might save a few lives!

This book has done a lot for me. A cancer survivor introduced me to it. I used its recipes to help support a loved one's journey through cancer treatment. I have given it out often as a gift myself. I have also trusted it to help me face my own showdown with cancer. The best part of this book is that Murray gives a lot of practical advice for the kinds of foods that can be helpful during specific kinds of treatment.

Overall, I thought this book contained a lot of useful information. In the chapter You've Been Diagnosed: Now What?, there is a section about the goals of treatment with natural medicine, which utilizes the following bullet points:

*Support the whole person. You are not your disease. You are an individual who happens to have been diagnosed with a particular illness called cancer.
*Take away any factors that support cancer development. It is important to eliminate harmful dietary, lifestyle, and other practices that promote cancer.
*Utilize natural medicine to treat cancer and prevent recurrence.

I think that sums up what this book is about. Authored by a team of doctors and endorsed by The Cancer Treatment Centers of America, the information contained within this book is primarily based upon various medical studies, which are all referenced in the chapters and/or footnoted for the References and Notes section.

I found the chapter Natural Strategies for Support Before, During, and After Chemotherapy to be particulary helpful as it explains the different types of chemo, the associated side effects, and helpful tips on how to deal with those side effects. Of all that I have read on cancer so far, including information that we received from the oncologist, this book contains the most comprehensive overview of what chemo actually is.

This book should be a must-read for every physician and patient, care-givers and family. There is a lot of emphasis on health care these days, but not as much publicity on prevention. This book is not one-sided, either with traditional medicine or with alternative therapies, but rather combines the two in such a way that gives cancer patients and their families not only hope but a way to health. I purchased this book when a relative of mine was diagnosed with cancer, and through reading it, realized that Dr. Murray's recommendations hold true for healthy people that want to stay that way, as well. A must-read!

Practical, useful information that felt do-able... little changes can reap big results. I only read the first half about prevention, I skipped over the info pertaining to treatments.
