More than half of the essays (by Donald Murray, Nancie Atwell, Tom Newkirk, and others) are easily 5 stars. I skimmed a few, but all in all, this isn't just vintage teacher research—it's insightful and wise. These essays will give teachers today an opportunity to take a break from the current obsessions in our field toward improving test scores, transactional writing, and data examination.
I'm not sure what direction English education theory is heading—but I think we can learn a lot from those who have shaped our profession. So many of those voices are right here in this book.
