The Kindle sample for this book spoke to me. I'm time poor and am always looking for motivation to keep blogging. I was also excited for something new (you only read so many books on social media/web writing/content strategy before you've heard it all. Most of this book contains tips and strategies I've heard, read, viewed from other sources and many of them are blog posts.

There were a few things that turned me off. I disagree with some of Jeff's opinions, like that Twitter etiquette is to "follow back": follow people who follow you. It was the case several years ago, but these days people are much more intentional about who they follow, especially with the rise of influence scores. If someone from a lawn maintenance company follows me, I'm not going to follow back. They obviously don't care enough about me to know I live in an apartment ... in another country. If someone with 6000 followers follows me and they follow only a few hundred people and are completely outside of my niche, I don't follow them. I can safely assume I will be unfollowed as soon as I do. I'm with Chris Brogan on the subject http://www.chrisbrogan.com/update-to-...

I expected more from this book, given it was published this year. In terms of the social media content, it read more like something I'd have bought a few years ago. The blogging content was okay, but it could have included more on the act of blogging. Maybe just straight "Marketing your blog the smart way" would have been a more appropriate title.

Kindle version is cheap and it's a quick read. Good if you're only getting started. I can see a lot more value here for students or recent grads who are beginning to be more intentional about their online brand.

A pretty nice book, that lacks, nonetheless, actual revelations that one wouldn't find all over the internet. It's worth reading, imho, if it got into your hands by chance, but it isn't actually worth paying for.
