Lassiter #5

A Hell of a Way to Die

Rate this book
WORSE THAN THE HANGING TREE
Given a choice, Lassiter would have walked away from a showdown with King Jessup, iron-jawed, whiskey-tempered rancher who put his brand on a big chunk of Texas and ruled it with the six-fun and the hanging tree. But trouble seems to follow Lassiter wherever he goes and he always greets it with a gun in his hand. Lassiter sells his gun for money, but he'll kill you for nothing if you get in his way.

Perfect western by Ben Haas (aka John Benteen of Fargo fame). Lassiter is an outlaw after mostly Wells Fargo money since he blames them for ruining his business. Though on the run he runs into Jessup's land, known as King in that part of Texas. With only two bullets left, he is captured by a gang of riders. Though before being hung, he cuts a deal with Jessup, who better keep his word or Lassister will take on his whole empire to get him.

Highly recommended, you can see why after Haas did this book that the publisher wanted many more from him.
