I got this in the bargain section of Mardels. It's reads like a Pinterest blog, but converted to a book. Nevertheless, I found a few items that were motivational and picked up a few ideas for future "bucket list"-type hobbies and activities. It's a good book to browse through, nothing too profound but not anything that I regret reading.

Gave me great pieces of advice and encouragement. Reading the book in one sitting is not recommended. More like you should set a specific time of the day to read and reflect on a few pages.

"More Than a Bucket List" (ISBN 9781400320790) by Jennifer Barrow is a collection of advises that grandparents give to their grandchildren -- like being positive (the one I always fail).
Become a more positive person.
It’s not a secret. You've been compared to Eeyore on more than one occasion. The invitations have slowed to a trickle, and the crowd splits like the Red Sea when you walk in the room. Maybe you're just going through a negative phase, or maybe your whining, cynicism, and criticism have become a lifestyle that's costing you some serious joy. So how do you become a more positive person? Here are just a few suggestions to get you rolling:
Admit you've become or are naturally negative.
Realize you have a choice in how you act.
Surround yourself with positive people.
Exercise regularly.
Laugh out loud. Hey, it works!

Trust God in business.Few other situations can sculpt and refine your faith more than trusting God in an entrepreneurial adventure.
An amazingly creative and courageous business life is a roller coaster -- risks followed by playing it safe. Great blessing and then being burned. Surviving recessions that take out our neighbors and learning to trust God for each day’s manna.
The key to success? Keep moving forward, keep trusting, and refuse dwell on past mistakes. Jesus said in Luke 9:62, "No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God" (KJV).
If we are plowing new ground and pursuing the greater adventures God is planting in front of us, looking back only ruins the field for the next harvest. God is concerned about the journey. Trusting Him is the grandest adventure of the Christian's life. That means trusting Him for your business too.
REAL-LIFE CHALLENGE: Pray over your business daily. Pray for your employees and clients. Ask God for opportunities to serve others and make His name known through the way you do business.
I originally thought it was a list of fun Christian things to do.
The book's a self improvement with some Christian values. This book wasn't my cup (or bucket) of tea.

After being in the hospital for nine days in February, I have read a few books this year on fulfilling dreams and making bucket lists. I realized that while I have done so many things, there are many adventures I still want to go on and many of them need to be planned. So when I had the opportunity to review More Than a Bucket List, I was excited because this is exactly the type of book I’ve enjoyed reading this year.
This is a smaller book, it’s a square hardcover and looks like a gift book. There are 278 pages but pages 272 to 278 are blank lines allowing you to make your own bucket list of 49 items. Personally, I have more than 49 items on my list, and beyond that, I like my list where I can see it, and I keep it as a file in my computer.
Unlike other books in this genre I have read, this one is decidedly Christian. It gives suggestions such as “Go to a big tent revival. Respond.” and “Hold Communion once a month in your home with your family.”
I did like the emphasis on volunteering and community. I haven’t seen that in many other books like this I have read. The one thing that disappointed me with this book was there were some suggestions repeated. I read it in two sittings so it was more noticeable than if I used this book like I expect some people would -- picking it up and flipping through it and setting it on the shelf for a while. I believe living debt free and writing a love letter to God were both repeated. Both admirable, both good, but to me the point of this book was to get ideas of things to do and accomplish, and I didn’t see the need for anything to be repeated. Also a few things depend on others. Growing old with the one you love is an example. Sometimes you can’t depend on others. What if you never find a person to grow old with? When writing my bucket list I try to avoid adding items that depend on another person. People change, circumstances change, and if you wrote in pen in this book, you could have a sad reminder of what could have been.
I did enjoy this book, especially the author’s commentary about the things she has done from creating a family cookbook to her life in Germany. The author’s comments were rare, but they were my favorite part. I also very much enjoyed her suggestion to create a “reverse bucket list” about things you have already accomplished. I want to do this myself! I’ve done some amazing things and it would be very fun to see them all in one place.
If you are creating a bucket list, this is one book you’re sure to want to check out if you are a Christian!

This cute little book is a collection of ideas, recommendations, and words of advice about things to put on your “bucket list”, or things to do before you “kick the bucket”. As soon as kids come along, I think its easy to feel like adventures are a thing of the past. I think specifically mothers are prone to feeling tethered to the routine of the daily grind, and they forget that there are still millions of things to do as we each cross things off our bucket lists.
I found this book to be perfectly inspirational and motivating to go and do! Just as the title suggests, this book is more than a list of things to cross off, or merely bullet points of places to go and food to eat. On nearly every page, there is a new goal to aim for, introduced with encouragement about why this idea is something you will want to achieve before you die.
This book was full of ideas both broad and specific. One page would be titled “Reframe failure” or “Be a true contender”, and then the next, to “Bicycle through Provence” and “Plant something to celebrate”. It was almost hard to focus because I got so excited with ideas! My mind would go off on tangents of how and when and where…
I appreciate that almost every other page had a religious or Christ-centered idea or call to action, which really helped keep a heavenly perspective on many of my dreams, passions and goals that are and should be regarding my faith

Try every flavor on the Ben & Jerry’s menu
Write out your testimony. Have a long and a short version.
Cross the states by train.
Build a birdhouse and enjoy its visitors.
Stop being afraid.
Kiss your sweetheart under a waterfall in Hawaii.
Pan for gold.
Live with compassion.
Every page was like a mini devotional and a match ready to set fire. 278 pages made it a thick little book, one that you might want to pull out every night over the course of a few weeks. All in one sitting might be too overwhelming! Of course, I recommend this as a super “go and do” kind of book! If you’re like me, you might close it and want to get straight to work on your own bucket list. I think More Than a Bucket List would be great for a high school or college graduate gift, or anyone looking for a little inspiration on what to do next.

When I first saw the book More Than A Bucket List of Toni Birdsong I was under the impression that it will be somewhat similar to 20,000 Days and Counting, that it will be about a call to action of doing some things that creates greater impact towards the people around you, but more so, that it has the same compelling message of having a sense of urgency. Well, it is somewhat the same thinking about it now, minus the sense of urgency.
I like that the book is broken down in little categories or one paged chapters. Basically it is just a whole bunch of suggestion coming from the author on what items we could put on our own bucket list of things we want to accomplish in our lifetime. The traveling itinerary is rather very lofty and may not be suitable for an average Joe, with minimal dough (hey that rhymes, hehe).
There's just way to many items on the list. Some were as simple as coming up with a resolution to exercise more and sticking to it, and doing some random acts of kindness and gratitude like picking up the check at a restaurant of a police officer or a fireman, or visiting a former teacher who made a positive impact in your life and treating him/her out to dinner, which I actually intend to do sometime this year, and some other really small acts of kindness that is bound to overwhelm the receiver in more ways than one.
The only thing that boggles me about the book is if the author actually had to experience at least 3/4 of the items she wrote there, it would have been much easier to relate to her had she mentioned which items were already ticked off her bucket list. And I guess I wished she talked a little more about her life because I kinda felt that the book was rather impersonal since she has not shared a lot of things about her life and what moved her to write the book.
Over all, it's an OK book for me, rather apt that I picked it up on the first month of the year.

While the book offered many things to see and do, I especially enjoyed the Scripture references provided throughout. I would highly recommend More Than a Bucket List to anyone looking to add fun and meaning to his or her life.

I read More than a Bucket List, in exchange for an honest review from BookSneeze. The book was written by Toni Birdsong. The book was published by Thomas Nelson.
I chose this book because I have so many dreams, but I am not working hard on making them a reality. The book started off good. The first section discusses laughter. God gave us the power of laughter. Laughter can heal souls. Birdsong encourages us to find friends, clean comedies, and other things, which makes us laugh. Then, the next section focuses on living your dreams. Write a book. Go skydiving, whatever it is, Live your dreams.
The book also discusses honoring people for their strengths, instead of their appearances, stereotypes, or personal prejudices. Get to know people for who they are, instead of who you think they are or who you want them to be.
Other suggestions in the book include:
Fighting for love
Being a good samaritan. Be merciful. Help others, who are going through something.
Practice being positive, instead of negative. Practice forgiveness. Laugh. Surround self with positive people.
Trust God in all things.
Practice Compassion. Help others. Volunteer.
Learn to quit. Quit cursing. Quit enabling others. Quit lying. Quit selfish behaviors. Quit living for others. Quit being late.
Stop comparing yourself to others.
The book provided good suggestions for creating a new bucket list for living. The suggestions are based on love, faith, and forgiveness. Not to mention, developing a relationship with God. At the end of the book (for those, who purchase the print edition), there is a fill-in-the-blanks bucket list. I will definitely continue to peruse this book this year, especially when I lack motivation.

I was hopeful this book would be something I'd hold onto and readily pass along, but it's not. (I'm reviewing the Kindle version, I actually think this book may be better as hardback/paperback . . . at times it seemed unorganized in pattern and layout) The part I LOVED about this book is the "faith based" reading. The few sections that dove deep into Scripture were nuggets I highlighted and found to be powerful. But, the rest was quite disappointing to me. I felt like it was a lot of: "do" this, "don't" do that. And the bucket lists were geared to those who are financially well off. For those of us who are middle to low income, there is no hope of completing MOST of the items on the suggested bucket lists. In fact, reading through them can be downright depressing. I thought the "don't use a credit card" was repeated a little too often. Overall, the message seemed shallow. None of the bucket list items seemed to take me deeper in my faith and make me a stronger person in Christ. I felt like it was all about the "experience" here on earth, with no focus on eternity, which contradicts Jesus' teachings. So, this is what disappointed me about the book. I wish the book would have been centered around a life in Christ.

More Than a Bucket List is a short read but very inspirational. Barrow took the Bucket List to a whole another level. Everyone has heard of the Bucket List….a listing of things that you want to do before you transition into the afterlife. However this list is a way to really look at what’s on your list and what you may want to put on your list.
I personally do not have a bucket list because I never really got the whole purpose behind it. This book was written in a way that showed me how a Bucket List can be a way to organize the things that really mean the most to you and how you can accomplish some of those things while you have time. After reading More than a Bucket List, I will be compiling my own with great thought and consideration of the things that I really want to do with the rest of my time in my earthly vessel. I recommend that anyone that does not have a Bucket List and would like a place to start thinking of what to put on that list to read this book first it brings a whole new meaning of the phrase “Bucket List”. If you have a bucket list you might want to peek inside this book and see if your list really reflects the things that you really want to do. Very Inspiring.

The review for today is "More Than A Bucket List" by Toni Birdsong
Every one is familiar with the term Bucket List. On there you place things you want to do in life before you die. This little book is just that. It mentions out of the mind amazing things to try to things you can do in your own own. This is good for I honest wondering how in heck did the author expect us to pay for some of the suggestions listed.
But it is not about following a list that someone has placed in a book. Anyone can do that. The point of the book was to get out and do something, try something new, don't just sit around doing nothing. As the author mentioned we tend to lose sight of things once we get married, have kids and settle down and life takes over. The chance of getting into a rut is very real.
Even if you can't make a fancy list of things to do, places to visit you can still make a bucket list that suits you. That is my take. But there is a bit of spirituality mixed in with the many lists located here. There are passages listed for us to check out to help us with our own journey. In there we find that we are not alone.
If anything can be learned from this book I would say is rather simple.
Do.
Do something.
Do something different
Do something outside your comfort zone even if you fail.
Just do.

Wow. I really enjoyed this read, and garnered fabulous treasures among More Than A Bucket List. So many of the topics sparked a fire under my bum to do what is right, what is good, and what is--ultimately--fulfilling.
This book doesn't champion an unreasonable to-do-before-you-die-list, but everyday gestures, outlooks and attitudes that will not only enrich the reader's life, but others he or she comes in contact with. There are short excerpts sharing a shining moment or a scenario in which the reader has a choice to make, and suggestions to choose choices that bring essence tot he reader's character.
I love my Kindle version of More Than A Bucket List, but wish I had it in print form as well so I could give it as a gift.

This is a fun inspirational book of interesting ideas for things to do for yourself and others. It is part lists and part inspirational stories with Bible verses and real life challenges. I enjoy reading bits and pieces of it each day. It includes sections titled "Live an Adventure", Go beyond the 'Burbs", "Love Your Community", and "Live Your Dreams". Some of the suggestions in "Live with compassion" include "Help a young person jump-start their career.", and "Set aside one afternoon a month to write thank-you notes and love letters. Mail them."
The different suggestions range from inspirational to helpful to fun and fantastical.
I think they can get you thinking and inspire you to look at and live life differently.

Right up front, I have to tell you that I'm an atheist. And I found this book incredibly helpful in developing my bucket list. I just skipped the overtly religious sections. There's a lot of other content in here that would be helpful to everyone, things about travel and relationships and self-improvement. I added many items to the list based on reading the book, which is the best praise I can give it. Recommended.
