Painless Reading Comprehension

Rate this book
Reading comprehension assignments that first seem confusing become easy when students answer the author’s key questions about their own reading habits. For “What can kids do to warm up their brains before starting to read?” and “How can they keep the facts they read in their head?” The author offers interesting answers to these and many more questions. Titles in Barron’s extensive Painless Series cover most subjects taught on middle school and high school levels, and are written for students who find the subjects unusually difficult and confusing—or in some cases, just plain boring. Painless Series authors, all of them experienced educators, are experts at clearing up aspects of their subjects that students are likely to find confusing. These books also perk up students’ interest by emphasizing the attention-catching ways in which the subjects can be put to practical use. Most Painless Series titles take a light-hearted approach to their subjects, and all of them present fun-to-solve challenges with puzzles, games, and “Brain Tickler” problems. Although Painless Series titles are written primarily for middle school and high school students, older students and adults who need to refresh their skills will also find these books extremely helpful.

NEW BONUS FEATURE
Printed inside every copy of Painless Reading Comprehension is a code that gives kids FREE access to a subject-related app. This book's app is an arcade game themed to help students improve their reading comprehension. It can be downloaded on any iPhone, iTouch, iPad, or Android device.

Since I am pursuing educational goal again, I wanted to get a book to refresh me. I know when I took the reading comprehensive part on the LSAT; it seemed like I forgot the basics (however I did well in the math section I guess because I was a science major that had to take a lot of Math--well not regular math-like equations but the concept). Most people mastered this section, and bragged they got it from H.S. is where they learned it. But even though I took advanced reading/English classes, I guess I forgot the basics use of comprehension and focused more on skimming and fast reading techniques. I read another book before this resource that was also helpful, to pay attention to what you read (comprehensive) otherwise it is useless.

The only downfall for me was a section to help teens read since I am college level/adult; but this could be helpful for parents or teens overall.

I did take some brief notes to review later.

I feel like you gave me a pretty good start in a good handle on reading. It's certainly not the best resource out there, but I honestly don't know what would be. For what it's supposed to do I think it does a really good job and I definitely ended up taking notes on a lot of the tips that were given. I would definitely recommend this if you are maybe an adult reader who's looking to increase their reading comprehension skills or at least is looking for some place to start that Journey.
