Almost every student has to study some sort of mathematical proofs, whether it be in geometry, trigonometry, or with higher-level topics. In addition, mathematical theorems have become an interesting course for many students outside of the mathematical arena, purely for the reasoning and logic that is needed to complete them. Therefore, it is not uncommon to have philosophy and law students grappling with proofs. This book is the perfect resource for demystifying the techniques and principles that govern the mathematical proof area, and is done with the standard “Demystified” level, questions and answers, and accessibility.

Call me a GEEK,yes I love math and wear glasses (minus pocket protector) -- the thing I really like about this book is the simplistic and average laymen way it explains some of the most convoluted Math Proof concepts!

Despite the 3-star rating, in some ways this was a fun book, for me, because I'm the type that gets giddy over a clever and elegant proof. Before that, however, I had to wade through chapters worth of elementary material that bored me half to death because I've studied logic multiple times. Don't get me wrong, the material was well organized and will be very useful to someone just learning about mathematical proofs, but this was clearly not the right book for me.

I recommend this book to someone getting into mathematical proofs for the first time. It won't necessarily help you understand a proof if you don't understand the axioms those proofs are based on, but it will give you a place to start, and for basic mathematical ideas like prime numbers, odd/even, and so forth you should be able to follow those proofs once you understand how and why they are structured in specific ways.
