There are better books than this.. Very limited examples with no references to online data or scripts. The infrastructure of Octave is kept hidden EVEN when introducing C/C++ optimization. And the author didn't care to specify the prerequisites needed, which are:

- Linear Algebra (obv)
- Calc 2 (Calc 3 preferable)
- Introductory Stats
- Numerical Approximations and Fourier Transforms...

NOT RECOMMENDED
