In a world where the Japanese supernatural spirits known as Yokai wander the physical plane, Bureau of Souls Agent Keiko Miller has a secret of her own: she's part Yokai. She'll have to protect that secret like her job and her life depend on it, because they do.
This collection includes the first three books in the Little Yokai Urban Fantasy series:
CAGED
An act of compassion turns deadly, and finding the killer may be just as lethal.
I’m a Bureau of Souls Agent tasked with bringing supernatural criminals to justice. I’m also a supernatural Yokai spirit pretending to be a mortal. My two lives are about to collide with fatal results.
A Yokai being hunted by supernatural criminals turns up dead just hours after I tried getting her to safety. Tracking down her killer means confronting half a dozen Yokai gangs in Los Angeles and possibly exposing my lifelong secret.
Can I deliver justice without being banished from the physical plane — or becoming the next victim?
HUNTED
Curiosity almost killed this kitsune.
When ordinary objects mysteriously come to life, my investigation into the cause uncovers a surprisingly sinister threat.
Rifts are appearing in the veil, the barrier separating the physical plane from the Yokai home world. People are dying. And my magical koi fish, Madara, is no longer reliably hiding my supernatural signature. Without her, I’ll be kicked out of the Bureau - maybe even off the physical plane.
I’ve got two choices if I want to solve this case. Option A is solving the case but revealing my kitsune side. Option B means keeping my secret hidden while I watch more people die.
I really need to find option C. Like, yesterday.
MIRRORED
Colleague or Killer?
A serial killer stalks the Yokai of Los Angeles, and I'm assigned to the task force responsible for finding the killer.
The investigation goes sideways right off the bat and heads straight downhill from there. My magical koi companion, Madara, is still falling down on the job, which puts my Yokai secret at risk. A supernatural gang member from my past may turn out to be a much needed ally — if I can trust him.
As the evidence rolls in, it all points to the killer being a Bureau of Souls Agent. Then someone frames me for the murders.
Can I find the real killer and clear my name before another victim dies?

An east coast transplant, Scott currently lives in Los Angeles, which is the setting for his Little Yokai urban fantasy series. He loves D&D, dressing up as a Star Wars Sandtrooper for Halloween, and playing video games. His wife claims he never disclosed these hobbies before they were married.
I actually read all three of these books as this set, last month, but have just come across this, so felt I should give a word or three here, too.
I've actually already reviewed each book in this set seperately - because every single book deserves to be reviewed on it's own merit!
I thoroughly enjoyed this whole series, and couldn't put them down from the very first paragraph, to the final words - to the point that I was reading until silly o'clock in the morning, because I couldn't bear to stop!
If you like anything to do with Japanese life, customs, and beliefs, in the supernatural, or extraordinary, then these books will be for you - in fact, they were so descriptive, especially where food is concerned, that my mouth was watering as I read them! Lol
The characters are actually living in the USA, but most are Japanese, or of Japanese descent, and so you have a real mix of nations together, sometimes lending a real poignancy to the stories.
I've already read books 4 & 5, and have just bought the final book in the series, Book 6: Released, today, which is 19th May, 2023.
I can't recommend these books highly enough, as they kept me entertained, laughing out loud - and occasionally sobbing. Any book that can do this to me, is very much a keeper, in my eyes :)
Scott Walker is an excellent writer, who I first came across when reading the DUO series - or the Delta Underground Operatives. Scott's book within this series is: Cloak and Dagger: Val & Timmeron (2023) . and is very much worth a read, too!
I look forwards to reading anything more that he produces in the future!
