Get started with Puppet, and learn how this popular configuration management framework helps you automate your servers. This concise introduction shows you how to use Puppet’s tools and templates to organize and execute configuration plans on Linux, Unix, and Windows servers. Through code samples and real-world examples, you’ll learn how to manage pools of servers and virtual instances, and how to administer access control. If you’re new to Puppet, but familiar with systems administration and Ruby language basics, this book is the ideal way to start using this open source framework.
This is little better than than an extended PowerPoint presentation on a couple elements of puppet. For someone looking for a book on how to setup management of several systems using puppet, go some whee else. It doesn't provide an overview of the puppet system. It doesn't provide a management framework example into which Puppet is deployed. It makes passing reference to needs of system and service life cycle management but fails to provide a very robust example. I think I get more out of the online documentation.
Between 3 & 4... Book provides very short introduction to Puppet - base principles, constructs, etc. But this isn't a Puppet reference - you'll need to take another book (or grab documentation) if you want to find more information
Definitely a good one - without wasting too much time gave me this 'taste of blood', able to understand basics and eager to apply to a particular problem. Also now I'm closer to understanding the difference between provisioning and deployment :)
it's really just a short introduction and scratches every topic just a little bit. It's ok to give you a rough idea what puppet is about but you most likely need additional ressources to implement mid-size and larger installation
Really did nothing more than skim the surface of some Puppet capabilities. Would not say it provided a brief overview having read Pro Puppet and used Puppet for some time now. Useful reference content but not recommended if looking for an overview or in depth Puppet book.
