Susan J. Heck was married for 46 years to her beloved husband and pastor, Doug Heck, who was a faithful Shepherd for 50 years. For 40 years, she has been involved in women's ministry, including teaching Bible Studies, discipleship, counseling, and heading up Ladies with the Master women’s ministry at Grace Community Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma (www.gccoftulsa.org).
Susan is a certified counselor with the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors. She is also the author of the With the Master Bible study series for ladies, as well as A Call to Discipleship, Putting-Off Life Dominating Sins; A Call to Scripture Memory; A Message of Assurance: Twenty Tests for God's Children; What Does a Spirit Filled Marriage Look Like?; Speaking the Truth in Love in a Post Truth World; and The Liberating Gospel. Susan’s teaching ministry is an outgrowth of her memorization work on the Bible. She has memorized the entire New Testament and is now journeying her way through more of the Old Testament. To God be the glory!
Susan Heck has two grown children, and seven grandchildren. Both children and their spouses are in full time ministry.
Every woman should do herself a favor and read this, and also listen to Susan's talk on YouTube which has the same title! I have listened to it about 4 times. I agree with everything she says about how Scripture memorization changes your life, as I have found the same to be true in my life as well. I wish everyone I knew memorized as many books of the Bible as they could. If we end up in prison someday, and we do not have access to God's word, we will deeply regret it if we did not take to the time to memorize as many books as we could. I have memorized almost 5, including the gospel of John. I am not gifted at Scripture memory. If I can do it, you can do it. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you diligence and motivation, and you can do it too. This booklet is only $5, and the content is free if you watch Susan's talk instead. There is no reason to not hear her message and get started with memorizing.
This is a quick and accessible encouragement to memorize Gods word. My favorite parts were the 11 reasons why we should memorize scripture and her personal methods to memorize. Her use of scripture is convincing that memorizing Gods word is possible and important for every believer.
This book is amazing! Highly recommend reading this if your struggle with memorizing. I’ve began memorizing “The Epistle of James” and I’m doing pretty great thanks to all the great tips in this book. Susan Heck has been such a blessing in my life.. I highly recommend any of her books.
This was a wonderful short little book packed full of tips and encouragement for Scripture memory. Highly recommend! As Susan says in the book: "You always find time to do what you really want to do." If we say we love God and His Word and want to truly know and meditate on His Word, we WILL find the time to do it!
3/19/2023 * 4 stars Short, quick booklet with several helpful tips for memorizing Scripture and the fact that the author has memorized the entire New Testament makes me hopeful that they'll help me memorize several chapters and maybe some short books of the Bible.
This is more of a booklet than a book. However, it gave the best reasons for Scripture memorization I have seen in a short form. Susan herself has memorized the entire New Testament and several books in the Old Testament so she has honed her method over the years. She gives us 11 reasons why we should memorize Scripture and the tools we need to do it. I find myself wanting to try memorizing again using her method.
A quick, simple, encouraging read that I go through at least once a year! If you want to feel equipped and encouraged to take up the discipline of Scripture memory, I highly recommend this book!
