On his first command Lieutenant Jefferson Travis had to be a martinet but the book by which he ruled didn't cover impossible situations and the US Army specialised in the impossible. This called for guts and integrity not rigid thinking.

This was okay for a western, but it was a little slow on the take off. My biggest problem with this book was I couldn't get into the rhythm of it. All books to me have a rhythm and once I find it then it is a smooth reading pace, but this one I did get the rhythm until almost the end. Still it was enjoyable at the end. Body count was low in it and the good guys won more or less. As to who came out on top you will just have to rea d and decide for yourself. Although you may have a problem finding a copy as this one was printed in 1959.

A first read of a book by this author, it was a pleasant easy read, no deep philosophy, nothing taxing on the brain, just a book that flowed well, told a simple story, great characters, I read it cover to cover in a sitting and enjoyed it. This won't be the last book I read from this author, definitely worth another visit.
