This book prepares you for the ISC2 Exam : Systems Security Certified Practitioner. This is an Intermediate level Information Security book and a stepping-stone to the CISSP qualification.
The difference between SSCP and CISSP is that SSCP covers 7 security domains and is more technical and practical while CISSP covers a lot of ground and is more managerial-level knowledge for managing Security.

This book is an excellent guide for this exam and I prefer it to the official ISC2 material which is lengthy and very raw in terms of presenting a technical topic. Darril Gibson is an excellent author and a very knowledgeable Security Professional who made it his goal to make this very technical topic an enjoyable and easy to follow read and not tedious and dull which is usually the case for most exam prep books.

the book comes with TotalSem exam simulator which contains over 250 practice questions you can take in exam mode or practice mode. I found this handy to identity the chapters I am weak at as all the questions map to the exact objective and chapter of the book.

Also the book has a handy objectives mapping as the chapters are not written in a way to follow the order of ISC2 objectives. I think this was an excellent decision as the author broke the chapters into logical sections which build on each other and have a much better flow.

I highly recommend this book and believe it can get you there 95% along with the accompanying CD. I do recommend however to investigate the forums and posts from people who sat this exam and follow their additional recommendations and tips and not make this book your sole resource. I am using various videos and googling the objectives of ISC2 to study certain aspects more in depth.

This was an easy read. The CDROM that comes with it wasn't such a help on the exam, but the fundamentals it goes over is still good knowledge to refresh yourself on. I passed the SSCP the first time after studying this text and I'd recommend it to people who have minimal experience.
