This was a great book to discuss patterns, or skip counting. I would use this book to introduce these topics. I could do a couple activities with this story. The first activity I could do with my students would be to make their own patterns on construction paper and label the type of pattern they have created. Depending on the level of each of my students, I may have to give them a specific pattern. For example, ABAB pattern, ABB pattern, ABCD pattern, etc. I would have my students share their patterns with their friends at their tables. I could also use this story to introduce skip counting.
