Hi, my name is Yasin H. Cakal and I'm a programmer and educator with over 10 years of experience in the field. I have a degree in Computer Science from SUNY Albany and have written many books on various programming languages and topics. Throughout my career, I've had the opportunity to teach programming to students of all skill levels and work on a wide range of projects in both industry and academia. I'm passionate about helping others learn and grow, and I hope that my books can be a valuable resource for anyone looking to get started with programming or improve their existing skills.
This is the third web coding book I have read by this author, and so far, I mostly like what I see. To give you some context, I've been doing basic web coding since before Javascript was a player! The book has a logical organization and flow, starting with the basics and building out more knowledge for the reader as the book progresses. Topics include setting up your developing environment, variables and data, manipulating HTML elements, and even building your own web app using Javascript. You’ll see plenty of coding examples, though I don’t like that the coding examples are shown as relatively faint colored text on a black background; I find it hard to read. You'll understand important terms in Javascript and see them in action. You will also get a deeper understanding of what Javascript can do for web pages. While I love that no-nonsense, no-fluff approach, I'm not wild about the book’s Q&A aspect, and I'm not quite sure why the author thought it important enough to have, let alone emphasize in the book's subtitle. At the end of each brief section, you’ll find an exercise and solution section that is far too reminiscent of textbook sections like that. I'm way past being a textbook user and don’t really like that format. They're not all straight comprehension questions either. Some ask you to write a paragraph describing a concept just discussed! Not necessary in a book for adult self-learners, who tend to be self-motivated. But that and the code snippet text/background are the only issues I have with this book. The information is solid. If you want to brush up your Javascript skills or start learning about it, check out this book.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
