Ernst Ulrich von Weizsäcker (born 25 June 1939 in Zürich, Switzerland) is a German scientist and politician (SPD). He was a member of the German Bundestag and currently serves as co-president of the Club of Rome jointly with Anders Wijkman.

Ich finde es so schade, dass dieses Buch vor über den zehn Jahren veröffentlicht wurde und ich das Gefühl habe, kaum etwas hat sich seitdem verändert. Wir kämpfen immer noch gegen die gleichen Probleme und Fragen.
An einer Stellen sagen sie, dass wir nicht wieder zehn Jahre verstreichen lassen dürfen - ich fürchte das ist bereits passiert.
Das Buch hat mich jedenfalls nachdenklich gemacht und auch etwas wütend auf die Konsumgesellschaft. Ich werde auf jeden Fall versuchen mein Leben in Zukunft bewusster zu gestalten mit den Dingen, die Faktor Fünf schildert im Hinterkopf.
Ich glaube außerdem, damals hat es vielleicht wirklich Hoffnung gebracht (was seine Intention war), aber heutzutage ist es etwas frustrierend. Vielleicht sollten wir in Zukunft mehr Texte der Vergangenheit lesen, um uns im Klaren zu sein, was wir alles vermasselt haben, damit wir es in Zukunft besser machen können. Und zwar konsequenter...bloß ein Gedanke.

Truly truly exceptional!
The thing the world needs most today is simple hard hitting methods to improve the environment to be given to elected officials on a silver platter t implement which do not increase cost of compliance or cost of business. This is exactly that.
It is still more surprising the lack of implementation of these simple choices comparing to what dumb expenses governments over the world undertake.

Dated but interesting, many of the technologies it discusses have not been developed and are unlikely to be developed, but does propose some good opportunities for energy improvements in home design especially.

Es ist mehr als nur eine Aktualisierung seines Vorgängers Faktor Vier. Es greift die neusten Erkenntnisse und Forschungsstände im Bereich der Klimaforschung auf. Das Buch versteht sich als Hoffnungsträger. Das Buch befasst sich mit der Frage „wie Technik, Infrastruktur, Recht, Bildung und Alltagsgewohnheiten und Umwelt- sowie Ressourcenschutz gleichzeitig möglich werden“. Positiv zu werten ist, dass die Autoren versuchen nicht hauptsächlich die Entstehung unserer heutigen Probleme zu analysieren, als vielmehr, praktikable und umsetzbare Lösungen zu präsentieren. Zwar sind gewisse Annahmen immer noch als eher optimistisch zu werten, doch die untersuchten Themenfelder werden gründlich analysiert. Ebenso versuchen die Autoren nicht nur die Effizienz zu steigern, sondern verweisen auch auf die dringend nötige Suffizienz.

Was in diesem Buch eher etwas negativ zu werten ist, ist die Tatsache, dass lediglich Symthombekämpfung betrieben wird. So glauben die Autoren lediglich auf Grund von Optimierung bestehender Lösung die Klimakriese zu lösen. Die Ursache dieser Kriese, nämlich das Wachstum und damit verbunden das viel zu günstige Erdöl werden nur am Rande erwähnt. Damit wirklich nachhaltiges Wachstum einkehren kann, so wie es das Buch proklamiert, müssten die Autoren auch dem Wachstum kritischer gegenüberstehen.

Dennoch ist Faktor Fünf ein fundiertes und analytisches Buch, das Mut macht und dringende Probleme lösen will.
