I love Milla Holt's books. Somehow she provides depth into quick reads. And sometimes that's exactly what I need.
I felt like I was right there with Bethany in everything she went through. I felt her emotions, her grief, her shock, her mourning, her happiness.
The only thing that kept me from giving this 5 stars is my own experience as an adoptive mom. But you'll have to read the book in order to figure that part out. 😉

This Norwegian, contemporary romance, with God mentioned throughout, gives the reader a strong sense of what God can do in the midst of the storms that come to pass in life. The main female character, Bethany, can testify to this!
Lukas, the main male character, has his faults but many God given attributes also show up in this story. Bethany learns that he is ‘The one who knows my name’. His thoughtfulness and tenderness, along with his unselfishness were precious.
The sorrow, joy, pain and healing were well described by the author while taking the reader on the journey through the storm with Bethany before alluding to a promising future.
Highly recommend this story - please read!

The Seasons of Faith series focused on five friends in a small Norwegian town who find love later in life. In Within the Storm, author Milla Holt focuses on Bethany. Bethany lost her husband in an accident five years ago. There are things about her husband that she never knew. She is now working on a biography of her husband. Her brother-in-law, who has always cared for her from a distance, has kept his brother’s “skeletons” a secret to protect Bethany.
I loved the way Holt developed this story. It really draws the reader into the lives of the characters. Bethany is forced to face some things that are difficult to deal with. Through it all her faith in God grows. Believers will be encouraged as they read this story.
I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
Within the Storm is written for the adult audience. I recommend K-12 Christian school librarians read the book to determine if it is appropriate for their audience.

Another great book
I have really enjoyed this series by Ms. Holt. This book was so good I had a hard time putting it down! I loved Lukas and Bethany’s story. And it’s a story about secrets, very hurtful secrets. But do you tell someone truths that you know will hurt them? When is the right time? Under what circumstances? But secrets always come out, usually at the worst time.
This story is not a light-hearted read, but has depth and deals with a lot of issues from a health crisis to relationship struggles as well as the secrets. I thought it was very well done and loved how the friends stepped up for Bethany when her own family was not there for her.
I received an ARC of this book, and though I was not asked to give a review, I have to let you know that you need to read this book. Read the whole series! You won’t be disappointed.

Bethany lost her husband in an accident. He was a very famous actor, but she never likes everything that brings fame. Now she is writing her husband’s biography and she needs info about his childhood.
Lukas was surprised to receive a visit from his sister-in-law. He has protected her from the truth about her husband. She was so in love with him that she didn’t and still doesn’t see what it is in front of her.
A wonderful story about secrets, lies and deception, but also about love and protection. There are several issues in this book such as illnesses and a case of adoption that really hurt Bethany. I love Lukas. What he did with her name brought tears to my eyes.

Clean Christian romance
Secrets.
Secrets are at the heart of this story. Secrets that have been kept secret and guarded for decaded. Secrets about the fundamental nature of a person and of their relationships.
This was not a light and fluffy romance, and certainly not a rom-com. This story is a serious look into loving someone enough, and respecting them enough to tell them the truth kindly. And to do it soonest before someone with a axe to grind publishes that truth in a way designed to inflict maximum pain. Otherwise, all one can do is be there to help pick up the pieces.

Heart-rending! My heart ached for the protagonist, Bethany, in this story. Living life sometimes really, really hurts, and complete trust often brings complete heartbreak, and yet, the story does not have to end - life is not over. Hope lives on - God is good, all the time.
I was given the opportunity to read an ARC of this short novel, and really enjoyed the storyline. The story takes place in Norway and has some interesting characters from all walks of life - the rich and famous, the working-class including authors, untrustworthy family members, true friends. A good read!

Wow, what a picture of unselfish sacrificial love. Lukas loved Bethany from afar for many years but kept it to himself since she married his brother. Even after his brother’s death he chose to be her friend, supporting her wherever she needed without asking anything in return. He leaned into his faith for direction and waited for Bethany to be ready for a new relationship.
This book was full of faith, heartache and joy and I loved it.

Touching, full of surprises!
This is my second Milla Holt book and it has the same crisp, easy feel to it. There are many unsuspecting twists, tension of unrequited love, and revelation of secrets to keep you pulling for these two through the storms of their backstory ... all the way to the satisfying end.

Wow! This story was painfully real. All of the characters' emotions and actions were well-written. Sometimes love can blind us from all different kinds of truths. Bethany's journey resulted in all kinds of discoveries. God and her friends were able to help her through it. Very well done!

This is a heartwarming story about two people just trying to navigate where their life circumstances take them. I didn't want to put it down because the author made me care about them. That's a good book!
