Salimba - she's a jungle mystery woman, with powers and allure and a nose for adventure. 25 years ago animation writer Steve Perry and Concrete creator Paul Chadwick teamed up for a series of tales wherein this dark-skinned adventurer faces down immortal pirates, bizarre monsters, and zombie apes. Now these tales are completely collected, with a bonus - "Baby," an all-new Salimba prose story. Perry's last story before his untimely demise is a dark tale of addiction and murder and the child who is left behind.

Don't read up on the author unless you want to get depressed. This is mostly interesting for actually having the "jungle girl" character not be a blond white woman. That said, it still plays on some familiar tropes and exoticization. Paul Chadwick's art is solid, doing a good job of capturing the vibe of classic jungle comics. I wonder if this had been giving a real chance from a publisher not going out of business, and if Perry's live had been less tragic, might it have developed into something more memorable and solid. Perhaps. As it is, it's mostly just a Curiosity of Comics Past.
I got it for my love of Chadwick without realizing that he was inked to little (obvious) recognition.
Also, I loved "Silverhawks" as a kid but that did not bring me to this- I figured the writing would not be adult enough for me and I was correct. It's American vanilla. But it's cute and she's sexy.
Chadwick is a pretty fantastic illustrator although I haven't really got into his series Concrete. Here he's having a bit more fun with a Conan-esque Jungle Girl character. There's 3 or 4 stories here. The first is similar to Curse of the Black Pearl with a pirate curse.
Chadwick is channeling Windsor-Smith and some Kirby at times. It's pretty cool stuff.
