I like Insights guides. In truth I just skimmed this one. I also used to live in Yosemite (ask me my zip code there), and I get to Alaska annually (my way is paid by friends who live up there who borrows my time to help them with research).

The reason why I gave this guide 2 stars is that I found a photo labeled with "Yosemite", and it was in the Sierra no where near Yosemite (Bear Creek Spire at the head of Rock Creek in the Inyo National Forest. I learned to X-C ski here decades ago. I climbed it and the peak to its right. Ditto a similar wrongly labeled photo which I will edit later it's less important.

The section (last) on Alaska is weak. This is understandable (it's a fault of all guidebooks); Alaska defies writing. Writing is about human, mostly city like places. Alaska isn't about that, and you really need a plane to see and better understand the place.

I own the Insight guides to CH, Norway, Austria, etc. While they all have serious editorial choices, they aren't as badly labeled like this one. All guidebooks are compromises about photos and text content. Borrow this guidebook from a library. Look at the pretty pictures but realize they might not be where they say they are.

I wish it included more parks but I guess I need to find another book for a more focused area.
