Since its founding in 1957 by the visionary Tatyana Grosman in a small house on Long Island, New York, Universal Limited Art Editions (ULAE) has become one of the most exciting contemporary fine art print workshops in the United States. This volume celebrates ULAE's achievement with nearly 200 works by 29 artists created over the past 40 years. Many of the prints made at ULAE in its early years helped launch and define the independent studio press movement in the United States. Reproduced here are now-classic images by Jim Dine, Helen Frankenthaler, Robert Motherwell, Larry Rivers, and James Rosenquist, and both early and recent works by Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg. ULAE has also enjoyed a tremendous burst of activity in the last decade, as represented by the work of Jane Hammond, Bill Jensen, Suzanne McClelland, Elizabeth Murray, Susan Rothenberg, Kiki Smith, and Terry Winters.
