A happy ending?

Alex is soon craving more than Jaye's body: he wants her love and admiration, too. For the first time in his life, he can't buy the thing he desires most; and now he must decide if he's willing to work at being the kind of man that Jaye needs, and give her the happily-ever-after she deserves.

This was a rather quick and very short hot read. I love how the story has a Cinderella-esque theme to it and the happily ever after in the end. Even though I thought that the ending was a bit rushed, it was still a good ending! For my first book by Bonnie Edwards, this is a pretty good impression. The sex was amazingly hot so you might need an ice cold drink near by... Just saying. Lots of dirty talk and foreplay, so if you like that, then this is the book for you lol!

Aanyway, this was rather a "generic" erotica romance book for me. It's not that bad, but neither was it great. It was just an okay read but I liked it nonethless. It was however, very sexy and I've got to give the author a thumbs up for that. Now, we shall talk about the characters! Jaye is a single mom who believes in working her butt off in order for her son to live a happy and comfortable life-- well, that's basically how it goes. Alex is a rich playboy who lusts at first sight after seeing Jaye and has never truly worked hard to get anything he wants. (I find this rather amusing, but hey, it's fiction). It's attraction at it's best, so they both decide to give each other two weeks of a no strings and no attachments relationship. Eventually, they both begin to realize that they have grown feelings for one another... so she ends up leaving him before the two weeks is up. SO, what do you think will happen next? Yeeep. Not really original... but the love scenes made up for it. :D

Overall, I'll give this book a 4/5 stars. If you're out on the look for a short and quick e-book to read full of hot sex, a fairy tale-esque theme, and a HEA, then you should read this book!

Alex offered Jaye 2 weeks of flingtastic hot sex...until he wanted more. This is a 90 page steamy erotic romance and I think Bonnie Edwards latest definitely delivered.

In Bonnie Edwards’ latest erotic romance, our heroine Jaye meets our hero Alex at a car auction, and with a bit of eye flirting, they take off to every girl’s dream: a two week sex-a-thon in Europe. But neither one of them expects their hearts to be involved.

But they never quite make it to Europe. After only a few minutes in the air, Alex realizes that Jaye has a death grip on the armrests, and is freaked out to be in his private jet. His solution? Talk dirty. Oh yeah, he distracts her from her fears with panty-melting, thigh clenching, naughty words. Somewhere in the friendly skies above Paris, they realize Jaye doesn’t have a passport, so they end up in Arizona. In Alex’s home…not just a building or an English country house, but his home. And Alex knows that means he might care more for Jaye than their two week deal allows.

My favorite quote was Alex realizing he wanted Jaye for longer than the two weeks:

""He didn't know how to keep a woman. He'd trained himself to let them go. He never got attached, never wanted to. Not until Jaye."

It’s just sex, that’s all it can ever be. A hot, steamy fling, and that’s all they both want…at first. Jaye starts pulling away any time Alex mentions staying longer. Jaye is responsible, has a teenage son, and unfortunately thinks of herself as trailer trash. Alex sees the truth; she’s a smart, sexy, down to earth woman who cares about everyone. But Jaye refuses to see Alex as anything more than a rich, flirty out of her league playboy.

Can Alex push Jaye to look deeper and see the real man, not the playboy reputation?

Can Jaye accept that her fairy tale can last beyond the Stroke of Midnight?

In less than 100 pages, Bonnie Edwards breathes new life into a steamy, sexy, dirty talkin’ version of Cinderella with Stroke of Midnight.

Stroke of Midnight offers up the traditional Cinderella story, only with spice! Jaye meets Alex at a car auction that she attends with her brother and sister-in-law, and there is an instant attraction. This is the kind of chemistry that says “DO IT” (literally and figuratively).

She takes a chance on him and he whisks her away for a two week, anything goes vacation. I liked Jaye; she had a steady job, her clientele love and respects her, and she has a steady (and loving) relationship with her family. Alex (while likeable) is not particularly loveable; he has been given everything and can’t understand why she can’t devote herself entirely to him and their sexcapades.

But the more time he spends with her, the more aware he becomes of how lacking his life has been and what joy she has brought to him. And for Jaye, she has to learn to let go of her responsibilities and focus on herself and her personal well-being and happiness. I liked that they were very sexual and comfortable asking and demanding. It fit the premise of the story. Alex is fighting an increasing need to keep her – forever. And she must realize that she might be worth a happily-ever-after.

My only complaint is the length – I wanted more! I wanted to see more of their vacation, more of her family, et cetera. But this was a great read; I can’t wait for her next story.

Jaye Sinns is a single mom, raising her now 16 year old son by herself from the time she was fifteen. She is a bookkeeper and has never really taken time out of her schedule just for her. She finds herself at a very swanky car auction with her brother and sister in-law. She catches the eye of a very sexy man – and they do the staring game for awhile until he finally saunters over.

Alexander Carmichael is a very wealthy man, who jet sets around the world. He sees Jaye and there is an instant attraction. He likes her bolder look and wants to learn everything he can about her. He proposes a spontaneous trip to Paris and Jaye is eager to go.

Stroke of Midnight did not do it for me. It is an erotic book with scenes way too over the top. First Jaye, who has never had a vacation before, drops everything to go away with a man she just met that day to Europe. They can’t just go out to dinner? She leaves her 16 year old son by himself and goes all the way across the ocean when she has never been on a vacation before? So I assume has never left her son alone?

The sex scenes are not hot. The wording and descriptions made me laugh and put me off. For example:

“Less than two inches from her face, his manhood rose, thick and full veined, turgid with hot, yearning life-force.”

“His balls contracted with her touch. Each testicle was a perfect sphere, cocooned in his sac, waiting, waiting, waiting for the demand nature placed on it. Jaye answered the glorious call, as women had always responded.”

Did we just learn his balls are perfect spheres?? For real? And later in the book, her clit is also described as “turgid.” That’s a lot of turgid-ness. This book is just sex scene after sex scene. They arrive in Paris and Jaye didn’t think about bringing her passport. So they have to sneak into London without one. More sex scenes. He forgets to use a condom and then really hopes she is pregnant. More sex scenes. Alexander starts saying repeatedly that he wants her to stay longer than the two weeks. Jaye needs to get back home to her son and job – but Alexander doesn’t let up. At all. It becomes creepy. Jaye finally sneaks away in the middle of the night. Then - more sex scenes.

Stroke of Midnight has plenty of sex scenes but is not erotic in any way. Along with a plot that is lacking, I can’t recommend this one.

Stroke of Midnight is modern day Cinderella story. Alex sees Jaye at a convention and whisks her off for 2 weeks of luxury and of course, sex. While the attraction was instant, I liked their relationship. There was definitely enough of a back story so that I had a sense of where both Alex and Jaye were coming from. Both guard their hearts closely, but love is inevitable. In the end, they both grow and learn that they can have it all. Alex was so cute as he kept trying to find ways to make Jaye stay with him longer than the agreed time. I was very satisfied with the ending. This was a great novella, perfect for a rainy afternoon.

fast read. good sex. lame-ass story line. puhleeze spare me from the two week whirlwind sex journey that pairs a "normal" single mom and an overly sexy, overly rich, overly overly guy. a sophisticated world traveller that inexplicably falls madly in love with the heroine even before the two weeks are up.

saving grace? the sex. lots of it.

if you're looking for a story to get lost in, this ain't it. but if you're looking for some hot sex surrounded by an absolutely done to death rich man/poor woman filler.

Stroke of Midnight is a modern day Cinderella story. Jaye is out of her league standing in the middle of the high-end car auction. Contained within these walls are the countries most wealthy. Jaye is only a tag-along to her sister-in-law and brother. Feeling out-of-place however doesn’t stop her from checking out the eye candy. When the focus of her attention starts weaving through the crowd to approach her, Jaye’s confidence falters.

Alex hasn’t ever seen a woman so beautiful. From her long legs to the mane of red hair being tamed into place by strategically placed pins, Alex sees everything he likes. His need for her almost seems otherworldly, a cataclysmic event he can’t deny.

Jaye agrees to a two week vacation, she has the time with her teenage son on a trip himself and her bookkeeping clients all handled. She doesn’t expect to fall hard for the notorious playboy with the hidden pain. How can she love someone who doesn’t know a hard days work?

Alex is more than just his family’s money. He may not know how he got here, but with Jaye by his side, he knows where he wants to go. He’s about to show her that love can break the social ranks. Being sensual and wanton has nothing to do with how much money you have.

The overall premise of the story is one we’ve all read time and time again. Rich, handsome guy falls for poor lady and tries to win her over by proving he is more than his money. The story really doesn’t branch out of that box for me. It was well wrote but it failed to effectively switch up the story to something new.

Jaye comes from a small town neighborhood and doesn’t believe herself worthy of anything long term with a man like Alex. She has a hard time believing he would even want a two week fling with her, let alone anything permanent. Her internal constant over-thinking could get a bit grating at times. There were times that it felt the story line was just a means to move from one sex scene to the next. I was hoping that Alex had some business ventures on the side and that Jaye would find out and see him in a different light. No such luck. I totally got his inner turmoil over the loss of his family, but couldn’t grasp how he basically did nothing everyday except handle his investments. I thought Bonnie could have added more on that front. At the very least we could have found out about his hobbies (like car collecting) to help give his character a few more layers.

It’s an extremely fast read and the sex scenes are scorchingly hot. Seriously, Bonnie can write a sex scene very, very well. Being what I would classify this as an erotic romance, Bonnie does excellent with this aspect. She is very descriptive and even if you’re having a hard time with the actual story line, the sex will set you on fire. She gives you an array of different scenarios to switch up the typical love scenes and that was refreshing.

I took issue with the very last page of the book. On the last page when everything is supposed to be mushy and romantic to close the story, Bonnie’s choice of words for Jaye were kinda a turn off. Maybe it’s the hopeless romantic in me but I wasn’t liking it. I thought something more sweeter instead of brash would have went over better. Plus it felt like the ending was completely rushed, just wrote in as a means to a quick, happy ending. But, that’s just me.

I give Stroke of Midnight by Bonnie Edwards 2.75 stars!

Stroke of Midnight by Bonnie Edwards
* I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

Everyone knows the story of Cinderella and her night at the Ball. Jaye Sinns is living her own fairy tale and doesn’t want to wake up. She can’t believe that good looking Alex is interested in her and wants to whisk her away for the duration of her vacation.

Jaye is a single mom from the wrong side of the tracks. She works as a book keeper for several small businesses in her neighborhood. When she is not taking working she takes classes at the local community college. She joins her brother and sister-in-law at a car auction while on her first vacation ever. Little did she know, that car auction was going to change her life forever?

Alex Carmichael is a international playboy that has more money than he knows what to do with. The only family he has left is his uncle. Something is missing in his life but he doesn’t realize what it is until he meets Jaye. He admires her and what she has accomplished, now if only he can convince her he is serious.

The attraction between Alex and Jaye is instantaneous and very steamy. They agree to a two week no strings attached vacation but neither one of them realized the strength it would take for them to walk away. Jaye felt that she didn’t belong in Alex’s world and once the novelty wore off, he would leave her. She has worked hard for the things she has and doesn’t see Alex committed to anything solid; this bothers her because he doesn’t seem to have a purpose in life.

Every little girl dreams of being Cinderella but I find the premise of the story a little hard to accept. I know that Jaye’s sister-in-law vouched for Alex and said that he was “one of the good guys” but not many people would pick up and take off with a guy they just met for two weeks of sex.

With the believability aside, I really did enjoy this book. The characters were compelling and helped draw you into the story. Jaye is a very strong female lead. She had to grow up and be a mom when most girls where worried about prom and learning to drive. She is independent and worked hard to raise her son right.

Alex has had a rough life, so to speak. Yes he has more money than he knows what to do with but when you don’t have anyone to share it with, it can be really lonely. A vulnerable side of Alex begins to emerge as he comes to care for Jaye. There’s just something about a tortured hero that I just love.

I loved the ending, very Officer and Gentlemen like. The gift he gives Jaye is priceless and better than anything she could’ve asked for. I was pulling for this couple to make it, even though they come from very different backgrounds.

Overall I enjoyed the story and give Stroke of Midnight 3½ Flaming Hearts.

I’m still having my holiday depression cum blues, and therefore, I did a little fiction marathon last night. Picked up an ebook. This time it’s Stroke of Midnight by Bonnie Edwards is a very sexy and steamy read.

This book is about a hardworking single mom Jaye Sinns who happens to meet a younger playboy Alexander Carmichael.

Tthe sexual chemistry between them is undeniable and unable to resist temptation, Jaye gives to her lust and allows him to whisk her away for her first-ever vacation. Two glorious weeks of no inhibitions, no strings and no responsibilities.

Now… she’s expecting a no strings attached, but after two weeks with her, Alex is not just satisfied with just two weeks. He wants forever, and something more solid. He’s tired of being a playboy and wants what Jaye has, and therefore…his seduction begins. But then again, he’s not the sort of guy whom Jaye would want to be involved in for long term commitment, and for the first time in his life, Alex feels as if he couldn’t seduce a woman or buy a woman’s affection.

Okay, generally, I like this story. All the element for a good romance story is there. The fantasy, the escapism, the romance, the steamy sex scenes. Everything is good, but I found it rather short. I think this book is just about 30k words. Quite below my standard for a full fledge novel. However, the character was well develop, so I guess though it’s short, this book is good enough to satiate my cravings for some romantic stories.

I rate this book 3 out of 5 stars. I received this Advance Reader Copy as my reading pleasure, a courtesy of Carina Press through Netgalley.

This book was provided to me by netgalley and was my first read by this author. Jaye is a hardworking single mother to a teenage boy. She had her son at a very young age and has selflessly put her needs and wants on hold to raise and provide for her son. Her selfless personality has provided her the opportunity to not only work for several businesses in her town, but also earn their respect and loyalty.
Jaye decides to take a much needed vacation to New York for a visit with her brother and his new wife. Jaye’s brother restores classic cars for a living so they all decide to attend a car auction in hopes of selling some of his restorations. There, while observing the auction, Jaye catches the eye of multimillionaire Alex Carmichael. Jaye notices Alex looking at her and even she cannot deny the sexual chemistry just from looking at this man.
Alex Carmichael has no trouble getting what he wants. From a young age, Alex has been on his own and is not used to wanting someone in his life, but just from looking at Jaye he knows he wants her. After a sexy seduction in the hallway, Alex convinces Jaye to accompany him on a two week holiday to France and England. Although Jaye is hesitant at first, she realizes with her son safely with her brother, that it’s finally time for her to take some time for herself.
I did enjoy most of this book. There is A LOT of sex in it, so if that’s your thing, then this book is definitely for you. The scenes were tastefully written and very steamy as well. I also appreciated the author giving homage to hardworking single mothers. Jaye's character was well written and very admirable even from the first few pages. This story does have a HEA and would definitely read another one of her books again.

This book had such a strong start, but I felt like it kind of fizzled in the last half.

Honestly, I think the second half was such a let down because the first half was so good! I just wanted more.

This is a short, spicy tale. While the sex was definitely hot, it took a major suspension of disbelief to buy the romance. A lust-filled encounter is one thing, a full HEA another.

The inconsistencies of Jaye's actions were hard to take at times. She's a responsible single mother who, on a whim and 5 seconds after meeting a man, jets off with him to another country? She's a loving, compassionate woman, but jumps to unflattering conclusions about Alex based on nothing more than a few toss away comments and assumptions? Her back-and-forthing made no sense, especially in the face of Alex's actions.

Having said that, I wanted this to work for them. Even though this 90 page story is 85 pages of sex, I felt their emotional connection. Parts of their journey left me feeling disappointed and frustrated, but in the end I wanted them together.

3 out of 5

Fantasies make the world a more pleasant place and Bonnie Edwards has given us a fantasy that’s fun to read.

Jaye Sinns reminds herself the world sees her as “trailer trash,” but she has a son she loves, friends she cares about, and a business that keeps food on the table.

Alex Carmichael spots Jaye at an automobile auction and sets his cap for her. Somewhere between all the fun and games, they both learn a little more about life and love.

Stroke of Midnight was a nice pick-me-up for a gloomy winter day and for a while, I forgot about the dreary weather outside. The pacing is consistent and the characters are likeable...make that enviable. This is the kind of love story that will cheer you up and keep you reading.

This was pretty decent. Some of the scenes felt like too much teasing, but over all, I liked it and thought it was pretty steamy and well written. The narration was well done, it flowed well between the two characters. I wasn't so sure about the characters at first, sometimes the single mom stuff gets to me, but this didn't feel like Jaye was sorry for the way her life turned out and was looking for a pity party. She was a very strong character. Likewise, so was Alex. At first I thought he might come off as shallow but soon realized it he was just very cautious and turned into a lovable character.

A STROKE OF MIDNIGHT is a sexy, retelling of Cinderella. I really liked the characters and the story, but it takes a complete suspension of reality. No one in their right mind would go off for two weeks with a man they just met and want to jump his bones on the way to the airport. There were a couple of times that I thought to myself "this woman is crazy", but the writing was compelling enough that I was sucked into the story.

I don't think that I am a fan of novella's. I think that they are to short to feature characters that have never been introduced before. I did not like this story at all. I thought the plot was weak and the characters annoying. I think it would have been better if it was a full length novel. But it wasn't. Novella's don't allow for character development. So often the characters are boring and stale. Which is what I got from this book.

Short, fun, and hot. I would have liked it a little more if the talk had been less blunt and after stretching out their first couple of days together, the ending was very rushed, but it was still good.

I wish some rich, hot guy would whisk me away for two weeks of sexy fun. *sigh*
